Marlin 917 Trigger

I have the Marlin 917VS in 17 HMR. The gun might be my most accurate .17 HMR. That being said the trigger is genuinely lousy. Amazing that it shoots as accurate as it does with the factory trigger. My question is can the factory trigger be adjusted by a rank amateur like myself or do I need to go for an after-market trigger like a Rifle Basix?

This is my truck gun and it gets beat around a bit. I don't want to pour a ton of $$$ into it. I could spring for the Rifle Basix if it is a world changer.

i have one too and i really havent found a good way to lighten up the trigger pull. i read on some forums that you can use a bic pen spring. that was horrible. i would just wait til the rifle basix goes on sale.

If you go over to www.rimfirecentral.com they have TONS of info on how to do this. Also, for you guys with the 917, I have a thumbhole Tundra stock new never mounted I'm trying to get rid of. I bought two but never got another rifle. PM if your interested.

I have a Marlin 917 VSFT (thumbhole) and put a Rifle Basix trigger in it. The trigger is set to 24 oz, and it shoots great.

That being said: the trigger was expensive, and I could have just paid to get a trigger job done and saved some money. I also had to do some slight modification to the stock to allow the safety to fully engage, otherwise the safety would fail if I pulled the trigger too hard.

Save yourself some money, and contact a gunsmith to do a trigger job. Its every bit as good IMO and saves you money.
