Marlin 983

Does anyone own or shoot a marlin 983? I'd like to have one in 22wmr but have a few questions as I've never seen one.

How are they for accuracy? Are they known as being accurate or is it a dice roll?
How are the triggers? Adjustable?
Smooth bolt/feeding? Only marlin rimfire I own is a model 60.
Buds gun shop shows them as being out of stock? Is marlin still making this model?

I don't really need another 22 mag. I have two now but I really like the look of this rifle.

Mine had decent accuracy, once I learned how to control the horrible trigger ! It has a lot of travel and is fairly stiff. I just learned how to pull thru half or more of the creep, then settle down and squeeze thru for the shot. Great little gun other than the trigger.

I don't know about any adjustments that can be made??

I've been doing some research on them. Seems there is a trigger mod that can be done. And marlin is no longer making them. I have located a used one however it is synthetic which I really dislike.

Looks as if the wood/synthetic interchanges. Wonder if I could get a swap from someone who has a wood one?

The 983 is a nice little gun for the money . I have one and have done the pen spring swap and it lightened the trigger considerably . Wood stocks from the older tube 780 and 880 series will fit with a little dremmel work around the trigger area inside the stock . There is a how to on rimfirecentral.com in the Marlin bolt section . I put an 883 laminate stock on my 983 synthetic gun with about 1/2 hour worth of dremmel work .All I shoot is Winchester 40 grn hollow points and CCI maxi mag 40 grn hollow points consistent 1 1/2 groups at 100 yards off my shooting bags.

I was looking for a good used/older Marlin for a long time off a friends recommendation that 22 mags love the micro groove barrels. Had a lot of trouble finding a new or used one at the time. When I did find the model I wanted I hated the "fire" sights on it and general feel of it.
Ended up getting a Savage 93 package rifle and havent looked back since! Havent found a round it wont shoot well to great. Only issue ive had is you have to seat the magazine properly or itll feed a little funky.
Whatever you choose try to shoot a similar model first. You said you already own two so you should know what you like and are looking for. Good luck!

Only reason I want another is one 22wmr is a heavy barrel with nice walnut and the other one is my dad's old one. Neither are what I want to use as a woods walker.

I wanted the 983 because it looks like a decent walnut stock and I like the 12 round tube.

Do not want a savage. Had a 93r17 and it was a great rifle but just really not my thing. I'm either going to find a wood 983 or buy another cz.

Hold out for the wood 983, I think you will like it. I despise the crappy magazines on the savage's and marlins.

The tube feed works great, until you want to unload just the round in the chamber, then it's a pain. That is unless you just unload it the proper way ! LOL

I have a stainless laminate 983 that shoots lights out with the hornady 33vmax. Get foxy you are more than welcome to com end shoot it if you cross the river here to ohio.
