marlin model 60 optics?

Im thinking of putting some sort of optic on my Marlin model 60. The only thing it gets used for is the occasional squirrel, starling, and tin can.

What do you guys have on yours?

Mueller APV 4 x 12 which is basically a $120 rimfire scope. My Model 70 (same as a model 60 but clip fed)wears one and shoots excellent. Between that and a decent trigger job.

I have had either fixed 4xs or 3-9x40s on every .22 Rimfire I've ever owned that was a "field rifle" and not a target rifle.

A 3-9x38 Weaver Classic is always a solid choice.......

Have the earlier version of the Marlin 60 that I purchased back in the mid 60s for squirrel hunting and plinking. Put a 3-8x32 (yep, 8 power) Bushnell Banner scope on it back then and it is still on the rifle. I'm not recommending the brand I have, just the power range, which I found to be useful. So, perhaps a 2-7 variable power scope would suite your needs.

Put a cheap 3-9x32 Simmons on mine... might seem like overkill. but it sure makes it sweet to shoot!! Have never once regretted that purchase.

I really like the idea of the Vortex, Id probaby take the 3x9 tasco of my savage mkII and slap a vortex on it as well.

The reticle looks handy for picky off squirrels.

Cabela's has some of their brand scopes on sale. The pine ridge ain't the best, but I think they would be great on that 22. I have a shotgun 2-7x32 on my m760 in 308. It holds zero and is nice and clear.

If that Marlin is really a tack driver, and I mean capable of 5 shots in half an inch at 50, it might be worth looking for something with an AO or at least something with the parallax set to about 65 yards like most rimfire scopes are.

The Mueller variables are okay and I think the 4-12s are AO equipped. My neighbor had one on one of his rimfires. What I didn't like was the fact that eye relief was pretty critical and unforgiving at maximum magnification.

Honestly I couldnt tell you how accurate the rifle reall is. Its capabe of Minute of Squirrel. The only reason Im really looking for an optic is because somehow my rear sight was broken. Rather than replace it Id rather scope it.

I really want something low power. Like a 2x7 of a fixed 6x

I have a BSA sweet .22 2-7. I like it ok. This is on a 10-22.

I also would point out that Nikon has a BDC scope for the .22. It is a prostaff I think. I would look pretty hard at this if I was looking for one today.

I like a wide field of view on a .22. Think shooting at running jackrabbits.
