Here is the photo of the Marlin XS7Y in 7mm-08 I purchased for my son.

I promised to post back once I had a range report so here is a photo of two targets from Friday.

Not a target rifle, but not too shabby either. As you can see this is with Remington Managed Recoil ammo. I'm hoping to try some full loads in the next few weeks, but this will work for the small guy.

How's the adjustable trigger on that? I was interested in one of those earlier this year but they were tough to find. Seems like it shoots pretty good out of the box. I never had much luck with the reduced recoil loads.

Thanks for the range report. I am buying a 7mm-08 tomorrow, but Marlin was not on my list. I am interested in seeing how the rifle performs with other ammo. Keep us posted.

I have been watching that rifle for 2 years now ever since it came out. Was going to get 1 for my boy he is 16. but I changed my mine (no reason)other than I sold my old mod 94 and got a 700 sps 7 rem mag and gave my other 700 .06 to him. That is after I took MY scope off. That kind of hurt I coukd do a MOA at 200 Y cold bolt. What can I say a sps stainless in a camo stock. I have not heard 1 bad thing about the XL7.

nice looking rifle and great targets ...I have had and seen
poor results from the reduced recoil loads and think that the gun shoots them better then any gun I have seen so far...big boy loads will shoot even better I bet and if recoil is a problem then I would reload and come up with a load that the gun and shooter really like.

Thanks guys,
I have not tried to adjust the trigger - yet. It feels to be about 6 pounds and I want to lighten that up some, but not too much sinch a young gun will be using this rifle.

I'm going to try some full loads next and see what this gun will do. The managed recoil was chosen because my son in nine and while he is not recoil sensitive, I don't want to turn him off. I was going to go with a .243, but the 7mm just has so many more bullet choices.

I have considered loading up something in a 125 grain reduced load to see how it would perform. I think that might be the ticket for a young shooter.

All in all I am pleased as I don't have that much money in the whole package. I got to shoot a prototype XS7 (laminated wood stock) in .22-250 back in September and it was really nice.

If you want less recoil for your son you already have the gun now just buy him a 22-250 or a 243 barrel for it.
look on Savageshooters.com for a takeoff barrel for $50.00

I am courious what that rifle set you back? I've never seen one in my part of the country.

Probably off the subject a bit, but at one time I liked carteidge's with a big bullet selection. Doesn't matter to me any more. A lot of the bullet's simply overlap and most of them you'll never seriously use. Seems like most of us settle in on one and sometimes two bullet's in any caliber and just stay with them.

Don,
I pulled some inside connections to get both the rifle and scope so I got my package set up for a song. So cheap I don't want to say out loud.

The XS7's I've seen in shops around here have been going for $300-$330.

I've gotten some 125 grain and 140 grain full loads but haven't tested them yet. Been working on building my own shooting range instead.
