I was looking at these online and have read a few good reviews on them . I have not got to look at one in person not a good selection round these parts . Does any one own one , shot one , seen one ? I am lookin at either a 243 or 7mm08 and would like somemore info . I hate that most shops in the local area do not carry much of anything and when they do it is priced like it was made of gold . thanks in advance

Just picked up and XS7Y in 7mm-08 for my son two weeks ago. Unfortunately, I have yet to get a scope and rings on it for some shooting. However, right out of the box I can say it has a pretty decent bolt feel (not rough or difficult) and has a pretty darn good trigger. Clean break with no overtravel at what I guess to be about 4 lbs. I have not tried to adjust the trigger either. I will shoot the gun first to see how it does before I start to tinker.

Va243...kevlars has posted here re: his XL-7 in 25/06 and recently sumone posted re: factory ammo results in his XS-7...both were encouraging...now, i have not shot one but i have handled a couple & i may have to get one in 22/250...they balance nicely;fit&trim is above expectations in this price range;bolt travel is fluid.

Chapped lips is correct. I have one in 25/06. Have only been to the range once with it. Will be going again soon. First time out is very encouraging. I like the trigger, like the bolt feel, and I think the stock is much nicer than the Stevens. For the money you can't beat it!! Again, mine is a long action, haven't handled a short action yet. I may have to get one in 22/250 after shooting this one!! If you can find one I would say buy it! I don't think you will be dissapointed. I will post again after the next range outing.

Just curious....

Has anyone seen one of these rifles in 22-250...? The Marlin website does not show it chambered in 22-250, but a couple of folks mentioned that chambering......

I saw that on the web site.... Just asking since several folks were talking 22-250 as though they existed somewhere...

okay for the folks getting confused....XL7 =means long action...XS7=means short action....personal note to VA243,I bought the XL7 in 30-06 when they first came out, actually had to order it(took awhile to get me mitts on it too)it shots fairly well.On the XL's most people on the internet complain about the groups vertically stringing as the barrel warms up.This is true!!!! However it isn't as bad as your lead to believe(we're talking about a deer rifle, not a benchrest rifle). It just takes a little tinkering to get what you expect.Do I want a XS(short action) you better belive I do either in 243,or,308.But I am holding out to see if next year they have a wider caliber selection,as in 223,22-250(gave my Browning 22-250 to my little sister). So what I'm saying is buy that puppy,if you ain't happy with it resell it.Good luck and good shooting to you

as far as wider caliber selection - keep in mind that the barrels are interchangeable with Savage bbls

so if you really want a different caliber, make sure it's based on either 308 or on 30.06 and swap out the barrel - set the headspace correctly and have fun

.243 is always the way to go!

bayou...i talked to a marlin guy at remington's number and he said "yes,22-250 is in the works"...no announcement projected...this was around may...i suggested they use 1-9" twist with throat to match...maybe on XL7 action.

hadn't heard that barrels are interchangeable with savages.....LOL....lotsa rumors floating....if only marlin would get their act together...they've blown every bolt rifle they've marketed...

it's no rumor - it's been done with pictorials. head over to snipershide.com and check it out.

I didn't pay it toooo much attention, i'm content with .308 and will eventually get a .243 as well for my boys. but there are other calibers that might strike my fancy later in life and if I ever get bored with the 308, I might use it for a starting platform. the trigger is just awesome, and the simple fact that the third box of factory ammo out of my rifle has 3 rounds touching at 100 yards just blows me away.
