Shot by Bill Crutchfield,JR.
The buck had 13 points on each 25-inch antler. The entire rack spanned slightly more than 21 inches tip to tip. After measuring all the antler tines and space between the prongs, Crutchfield's total score was 268 4/8 inches, breaking the mark set in 1987 of 228 4/8 inches.

Yeah, we have it good here in little ol' Maryland. That is other than the traffic, crime, and taxes. That monster was shot on the wrong side of the Bay Bridge.

Wow...thats one monster buck /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

The email sent to me just said he had to wait 60 days for air drying before the official score would hit the books. But it was killed this deer season.

Question for you biologists:
I am not an expert on deer in any way but am capable of aging deer pretty good on the hoof and aging by teeth.
I have never studied Northern Deer and my hunting and studies have been restricted to North Central and Western Texas. That being said, this deer (body wise) only looks to be 31/2 yrs old. Muzzle makes me want to say 41/2, but that could also be discoloration from tree bark.
Any ideas? I would really like to know on this super freak.

I'm guessing 4 1/2 years. His body size is pretty typical for our area. The buck was shot the first week of firearms season, around the 27th to 30th of November. I see a lot of gaunt mature bucks in late Nov. and early Dec. that were fat as hogs in Oct. before the rut.

I agree with cwby...it's tough to judge a deer by the body after the rut...i shot a 160 class this year in NE iowa and he prolly only weighed 150-160 pounds...which isn't all that big, but i took him on new years day which is later yet so it's anybody's guess, mine would 4 1/2 also.

i'd have a heart attack just finding his sheds!
seeing him on the hoof i'd get wood, a heart attack and a stroke. i'd forget i was carreing my rifle and just stand there in awe.probuly mumbleing bbbbbiiggg bbbuuucckkkkk.

Holy cow that is a monster. That is what dreams are made of right there. That is why all of us spend long days and sleep less nights for a chance at some monster like that dude. Holy cow man that is nice.

Too bad so many people Horn Hunt and take such a beautiful animal out of the Breeding stock. Myself I would rather have a button buck or a couple year old doe.

what? that wouldn't even take any effort. to do that you would only hunt 1/2 hour a year.
i hunt for the hunt if i didn't hunt the biggest thing on the mountain the deer season wouldn't even be worth looking forward to.
i like the deer i get on the last day last hour of the last season. that way i can hunt every day leading up to it.

Even before I became Disabled I would rather shoot the Button Bucks and young Does, everyone knows they taste better. I wasn't trying to come off as a tree hugger, but if more people would let them keep walking by it would no longer become the once in the lifetime Trophy Buck most hunters only dream about.

My disability only allows for a very short distance into the woods and there I must sit it out until a shooter comes along, and the job I held for years before becoming Disabled didn't allow for much hunting time if any.

Sorry if I came off wrong or offended anyone.

Hey Boiler. To each his own. I'm sure that buck got plenty of oppurtunities to pass his genes on. Even though I only bowhunt, killing 15 to 20 does or buttons a year wouldn't be difficult. A monster like that is a buck of several lifetimes. I've only seen a handful of bucks in 38 years that were even remotely close to our new state record, and only one of those was while I was hunting. There are deer dying of old age everywhere that are bigger than this one. Because more hunters are letting bucks walk nowadays, the chances of killing a 180"+ deer is higher than ever. This monster was once a button buck right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
