Mauser 93 ???

I just picked up a Spanish Mauser (Oviedo 1916) 93 for use on a custom rifle chambered in .338 Federal. The price was rightfor a complete rifle in 7 mm Mauser... 52 bucks with a 3x9 Tasco World class scope /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif. Anyway, From the info I gather some say the pressures are to high for .308 pressures. there are alot of misconceptions about the strength of these actions. Can I get some thoughts? Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I had a Spanish '93 chambered in 7.62 CETME, same dimensionally as 7.62x51 and .308, and was actually marketed as a .308 Win. Anyway, factory .308 ammo required you to beat the bolt open due to lug setback. Avoid them for anything hotter than 7x57. I wouldn't be as concerned with a Swedish '96 or DWM '95, but the Spaniards are too soft.

PS: If that Tasco was made in Japan, I might want to help you recoop some of your costs...

I did some more research and I have decided instead to go with a 6.5x55 or 300 savage on that action. I would still like some more insight on either of these calibers??

As far as the scope goes. Unfortunatly it isn't a Japan... it's a China. It will sit nicely atop my 22 250 where I rattled all the adjustment out of the last Chinese POS I had up there./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

The quest for another "suitable" Mauser action for my .338 Federal continues. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Look for a Mexican Mauser 98 action, It is a small ring Mauser and a tad shorter than the Mauser 98 large ring. Perfect for the 308/338 case. It can the the pressures the 308 Win for sure. Not sure what pressure levels 338 Federal is loaded to, but likely normal pressure limits.

The 93 mauser was designed to below 45,000 CUP (copper units pressure).
