Michigan Deer Hunters (And Jeff Mock)

Once again the great debate about the 22 caliber for deer hunting has come up again. Is it legal or not? I have a guy telling me he spoke with a C.O. and they told him it was fine, he cited a few deer he has killed and checked in with a 22-250 so he's got me wondering again! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Although Jeff posted the story of a deer shot with a .243 I know he would be interested in knowing if he would've been allowed to use a .223 or similar weapon. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The MI regs state it is legal to use any firearm in the rifle zone except 22 & 5mm cal rimfires. So that means a 22 cal centerfire would be legal.

yes, a 22cal centerfire is completely legal to hunt whitetail deer in the rifle zone from nov. 15 to nov. 30. What most people do not know is that it is legal to hunt anywhere in michigan with a centerfire rifle except for the "gun hunting" deer season.

I had the DNR settle that one for me when a man who thought I was on his property tried to run me off and then on top of it tried to have me arrested for being in the woods with what he called an automatic military weapon. I assured him that my bushmaster varminter was perfectly legal and that he was on property that not only didn't belong to him, but that my family owns the hunting rights forever, no matter who is paying the taxes on the property...well to make a long story short, the DNR officer showed up and I got my plot maps out that I keep in my truck...You should have seen the guy's face when the officer mimiced pretty much exactly what I said and then he added...Sir if you bother this gentleman again or if you are seen on this property there is no reason why you shouldn't get arrested, have a nice day.

By the way, that was the first time I ever saw a red fox while hunting and couldn't take the shot because I could hear someone coming through the woods...turned out to be him...never seen a red fox since.
