Well we just finished up the 2009 48 hour predator hunting competition sponsered by Nettie Bay Lodge. My team finally took first with 3 coyote and a gray fox. [image]

I run a guide service for predators here in Northern Michigan. My area gets hunted hard mostly by me, therefore we decided to hunt the competition in the southern half of the state. I traveled close to 400 miles in 48 hours and managed to make 22 stands. We called in 5 animals that we seen 3 coyote and 2 gray fox. Luckly we were able to score hits on 4 of the 5.
We started out hot shooting a yote on stand 1 and 2, but then nothing more Thursday night. After a dozen or more stands I howled in a 40 pound male, and one of us got lucky and hit him running away at around 150 yards. Next stand a gray fox came running in after 30 minutes of howling by me and several coyotes. I cant explain this, I guess that little bugger thought he was tuff enough to take tweety away from a coyote. After a close call with a load of dead coyote he decided better. One in the afternoon the last day we got lucky again and called another gray into around 90 yards, and my partner introduced him to his 22-250. We were sure glad to win, but would also like to congradulate the other teams that placed.
There was only 12 animals shot by around 30 teams in this hunt and 7 of those were by the top 2 teams. Second place finished with 3 yotes and missed a bobcat that would of beat us. I guess that goes to show ya how tuff calling those eastern predators can be.
