Midsouth has 50 grain poly tipped bullets on sale

You sure they are nosler? the profile looks more like hornady. I had called in and tried to get some specs from them and they refused to give me anything. No BC, SD, length or brand.

In the picture they look just like the Nosler Ballistic Tips that I have. And, they look like the Hornady bullets as well don't they? I did a bit of checking on some other sites before I ordered and according to someone that works at Nosler they are the same bullets. When comparing the one in the picture to both Hornady and Nosler it sure looks more like the Nosler to me. Even used a magnifying glass.

I will measure them for overall length when they get here and let you know which bullet they are more close to. But I will not be heartbroken if they are Hornady's either. I have killed bushel baskets full of ground squirrels and prairie dogs with them. I am not worried but the local rodent population around here should be!

Please do post back. I shoot the hornady, just don't really want to have to work up a new load.

I sure will. They should be here next week.

I doubt that you would have to change much with your current load anyway. I use the same powder charges with either bullet in both my .223 and .223AI rifles and both the Nosler and the Hornady seem to shoot equally well. Perhaps the Noslers shoot a smidgeon better but hardly enough to mention.

Hey Guys

Midsouth order got here today. And I can now say unequivocally that the those 50 grain polymer tipped .224 bullets are made by.....I don't know. I just measured the Nosler Ballistic Tips and they are .788". The Hornady Vmax bullet is .770" and this Midsouth bullet is .777". Even under a magnifying glass they all look so dang close to each other. Huh. Well, now I aint sure just who made them. I can tell you this- I am going to load a few with my favorite load of Varget in my .223 and take them to the range and give them a try. They look good, but how well they punch holes in paper and toss little furry critters remains to be seen. I will do my best to keep you all posted.

Best I can tell right at .440". I don't have a ogive measuring tool so it is hard for me to be very accurate. But under closer examination I can see that the Midsouth does appear to look a bit more like the Vmax than it does the Ballistic Tip.

I wish that I could take close up pictures of them all and post them but I have no way to do that.

They are 50gr V-Maxs... Good price.

It certainly is for my .223 AI rifle. 28 grains of it with the 50 grain Vmax or Ballistic Tip. But I like Varget for my standard .223 rounds because I have found the best combo of speed, low pressures and great accuracy with it. H335 works wonderful my .223 for 40 grain bullets but I prefer the 50 grain bullets most of the time in my .223 rifle and Varget is my go-to (or my Huckleberry!) for those bullets.

Do you think some generic maker is making a copy of the V-Max? These black tip ones have showed up in several places over the past couple of months, apparently there are a lot of them out there.

Does Hornady really bother putting black tips on some of the seconds?

I bought some "seconds" from another website 3 months ago and they had all the same measurements as a V-Max AND they were red tipped. Obviously that doesn't prove anything as far as where they actually came from, but I'd just find it strange that they'd be selling some with red tips and then for some reason put black tips on others. Maybe it depends on where in the process they get caught as seconds?

Either way, I like the 50 grain. Rustydust, thanks for posting the alert, would have been nice had I needed any.

None of the above - all of the bullet companies will make bullets for other companies, under their name - Winchester, Remington, and others sell ammunition with bullets made by Sierra, Nosler, Hornady, etc - it is easy to change the color of the tip.

Same in reverse - Winchester and Remington will make brass with someone elses headstamp on it (you gotta order a LOT

You welcome, and it is a good price. They still on sale too as of this morning I noticed.

But I think that I am going to have to slow down a bit on my buying. I have so many shelves buckling under the weight of lead that I am having to just start stacking bullets on the floor. Not just the over 20,000+ .224 bullets but wow, also thousands and thousands of .17, .20, .243, .257, .277, 7mm, etc. Many 500 round cardboard boxes of 9mm, .357, .44 and .45 bullets too. Some I cast but most store bought.

Fortunately I have enough primers for them all but powder is a different story. Takes up lots more room than bullets and especially primers do. But like I said, I need to stop buying for while now. All I am doing anymore is adding more stuff that my wife is going to have to get rid of with an estate sale someday after I kick. Hopefully that will be a while yet. But if I keep buying like I have been my wife may hasten the process up a few years.

i couldnt pass these up! i had to buy a 1k
they look like the v-max to me. i have a load for vmax in my gun. i will try the same load with these, i bet they shoot the same..
thanks
