Midway's Dog Town Bullets

Anyone shooting Midway's Dog Town Bullets? From other forums I understand they are made by Nosler. I just loaded a batch of TAC 20's using the Dog Town 34 gr. bullet. I'll be trying them out at the range as soon as the weather permits. Pricing is favorable. I sure hope they shoot well.

Nosler? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

They are buying bulk bullets from a low priced supplier, not a premium bullet manufacturer, I can't find that Nosler even makes a 34 gr hollow point, most likely they are from Winchester or Remington.

Actually, Nosler does offer these 34gr .204s as their SHOTS bullets - they just had a big sale with 1000 for $85. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I didnt have all that great of luck with them in either of my 223's. They were OK but not as good as some others. But the 20 cal was another story. My Savage 12 in .204 shot 5 into about .600 inch. They were pushed along with 27 grains of Benchmark with the CCI BR cap. They shot every bit as well as Vmax and the Noslers in my gun. You might give them a try.

Do you have any facts to base your statement on??

If you call Midway and ask them you'll be laughing out of the other side of your mouth. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Definitely let us know how they shoot. I had picked up 300 from Midway to try, and then yesterday, found what appears to be the same bullet from another supplier (they get here next week, so I will do a comparison). I ordered 1K from them (for $69 + shipping /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif), so I really hope that my NEF .204 takes a liking to them - if it doesn't, I'll have to buy another .204 to try them in. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have been using the Dogtown 55gr bullets for about 3 years now. They shot .375ish groups all day out of my AR. I love em and it does a job on the yotes, too!

Where did you find them?

I'd love to hear a range report regarding accuracy with these bullets.

And...if it's not too much to ask, if you take any of these out pdog shooting, see if you can "test" them for susceptibility to ricochet. A lot of my 'dog shooting takes place around cattle, and I've always hesitated to use anything except VMaxes for that very reason. They rarely ricochet.

They were at Midsouth, listed as MIDSOUTH BARGAINS VARMINT NIGHTMARE EXTREME 20CAL .204DIA 34GR PREMIUM FLAT BASE HOLLOW POINT 500 PK:

http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=000042034

To make sure that I didn't regret posting this link later, I went ahead and ordered another 1000 this morning, along with 500 of their 55gr .224s (I ordered 500 of their 50gr .224s the other day). At that price, I just couldn't turn them down.

Of course, the real funny part is that here in GA, those will probably last me more than a lifetime, since (1) I haven't started reloading yet (have only been accumulating stuff for a few years /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif) and (2) there are no real easy-to-get-to varmints/predators around here (I'm still looking for some local place to try for coyotes and crows; foxes and bobcats require rimfires or shotguns; there are no groundhogs in the area and the only armadillos that I have seen have been closer than 30 yards). Now, why did I get a .204??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif Oh, because I NEEDED one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Did I mention that in Midsouth's NEW ITEMS list, they are also planning to get Varmint Nightmares in .17 (doesn't say a weight right now)? If it holds true to their list, they will be $29.74 per 500.

Of course, it doesn't help me since the only .17s I shoot are the HM2s.

I have 3 100ct boxes of the Midway bullets downstairs. My first Midsouth order is due to deliver Monday, so I will do a comparison and let you know then.

I have often though about getting some, just never have. Reguardless as to how they shoot, even if you can only muster an 1-1/2 out of them in say a 223, they are cheap enough to make some nice plinking bullets.

I got about 1" out of my Savage 112 and my custom AR-15. I did not try them in my 220 Swift or my 221 Furball. Perhaps if I tried a few different loads this would have gotten better, but both of my 223 rifles shoot the Vmax and the Nosler BT so well (half inch at 100) with seemingly any load that I pretty much quit trying with the Dogtown. But since I like to shoot them iddybiddy ground squirrels out past 300 yards and sometimes out to 400 yards, 1" groups at 100 are a bit lacking at 4 times the distance. Pity. Sure a good price.

Will you go here http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=544231&t=11082005

and let me know if this looks like the same bullet. I ordered them but will order from midsouth if they look the same.

They look EXACTLY like the Midway bullets that I have - same length, shape (flat base), tiny little HP. I didn't break out the scale to confirm the weights. The MidSouth bullets are packaged in a thick plastic bag (not a handy box like with Midway) with no external markings on the bag to denote the original manufacturer - but for the $16+ difference, I can live with that.. Sorry - no pics today. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
