Anyone have any experience with the Midwest industries hand guards? Looking at getting one for a build. Was about ready to buy it until I watched a youtube install video and realized that part of the install was literally gluing in to the barrel nut. Can they be installed without glue?

Been looking at them myself for the next build. I like the color options they have, but am leaning towards the BCM handguards. About the same price range.

I have several M.I. handguards and they are top notch products. The glue or green locktite is not necessary for "normal" rifle use but if it is going to see extreme use than you might want to use the goo. I have installed both with and without the glue and no problems either way, you can still remove the handguard from the barrel nut if you glue it, just takes a little time.

^^ THIS ^^ I have three of them, and never glued one in place.

With that said, all of mine have the fingers on the tube, that mate with the slots in the barrel nut. With those, if the clamping screws loosen, the rail isn't rotating much. I think some of the new models have done away with the fingers, and use a different barrel nut. I have a couple of cheaper Matrix tubes, that just clamp on, and I don't Loctite those either. But as part of regular maintenance and cleaning, I always re-torque the clamping screws...Rarely does one appear to have loosened.

I've got one on a Grendel build, quality products. I used the glue the first time I installed it and realized after the build I wanted an adjustable gas block. I was still able to get the hand guard off with little issue.

I have MI Gen 2 SS Hand guards I love them that said they are on my 6.8 spc build. At first I installed without the glue and everything was fine until I shot it lol, the hand guard would drift forward with every shot. I had to reinstall with the glue and now the forearm has stayed in place after hundreds of rounds. I recommend using the glue for extra security and you can still remove the forearm with a little work.

I second the others on skipping the glue. We've got 4 of Gen2 installed with no glue.

However, if there was chance I might fall down a mountainside and need to stay in the fight I would glue it.
