Millett Scopes

CWeeks,
I just purchased a 4x16-56AO Millett scope. It's mounted and I've only got about 40-50 rounds through it. I haven't done a box test yet, but will the next time the wind calms down. My initial impression right now is I not really impressed. I had a 3x9 Leupold on the rifle before and could get tight groups. Now I have a higher magnification scope on the rifle and the groups opened up ~1.5" @100yd. The Leupold didn't have AO and this one does. I have to play with it some more to see if I'm just not getting all the parallax out and that is causing the bigger groups. Other than that, the glass seems clear, construction seems good, no real negatives. I just need to bench shoot it some more and play with the AO and see if I can't get things to improve. M

sharkathmi,
PM sent. Please keep me informed if you get out soon. I am in the next couple of days going to be getting a Model 11FNS savage and looked at a couple of the millets. What kind of warranty do they have?

CWeeks,

The general consensous of the Millet scope owners is that the standard scopes are sub-standard for the most part for the price range.

The company is in and has been trying to change this impression with their newer tactical line of scopes. They specifically Steve the general manager of Millet has done a good job of enforcing a higher level of quality control and and source materials for the tactical line. The "good" Millet scopes are TRS-1 4-16x illumed, DMS 1-4x, and the new LRS 35mm tube 6-25.

I have used the TRS and DMS both are very good products. I have run many box tests with the TRS 4-16x always holds zero. I had it on my long range .308 for a few months and adjustments were repeatable. My only issue with it is the lack of turret indicators and the 1/8" adjustments are a bit of a PIA for dialing elevation at different distances. The glass is at least as good as Burris FF II lenses.

Bottom line is stay away from the basic line of scopes they make. The tactical lines are top notch and really not even the same product. Millet has a great customer service dept and if you have a problem they will just send a new scope IME. They can test them on a computer system but don't have the means to repair them in California so they will probably just send a new one.

Any of you guys have any good or bad feed back from these scopes?

I do but you may not want to hear it...grin...

GregW,
Why would I not want to hear it? That is why I asked the question. I want opinion from those who have used them so I know what to look for and if it worth buying one. I could care less what the outcome is at this point, just want to know if they are worth trying or not.

yotekyllr Has it right from the research i have done on the new Millett scopes. I think i may just order one tomarrow for my rock river. Lee

i won't comment on the Millett Scope's..because i haven't owned one..nor..do i have the urge too.."however" why mess with one..when..there are so many choice's that are proven winner's..my guess is your looking for some kind of value ??

I just got a Millett DMS 1-4x for my new RRA Coyote Rifle. I haven't shot it yet (although I have fondled it a bunch), but I really like the reticle. The illuminated "donut" with the center dot will be great for low light and night hunting. The scope appears to be built very well and the glass is nice and clear. I wanted the straight 1x for close up and/or running dogs. The 4x should be great out to at least 300 yards, which is about the farthest I would be shooting at coyotes with my AR. Past 300, I would want my 6mm or a .17 HMR.

There are lots of scope choices out there - do a search and I think that you will find several threads discussing Millett scopes.

Have a Great Day!!!

I own a Millet TRS-1 although it's still sitting in it's box waiting for a rifle. In a side by side comparison with my 3-9X40 VX-II with both set at 9X, my eyes give an edge to the Millet during midday. Late in the evening, the TRS-1 definately has an optical advantage....image is crisper, I can distinguish detail for a longer period. With the Millet at 16X it still seems to be crisp and clear. My eyes can't decern any "optical defects" in the Millet. The illuminated reticle seems to work really well, although I'll really put it through it's paces this summer.

The overall appearance is great; nice finish, power ring is smooth, the side focus is stiff but works well. I think the first thing someone notices about this scope after handling it is it's weight....this thing is dang heavy! The flip up scope caps are lousy and will be replaced with Butler Creeks.

So far, I think I've got a lot of scope for the money but time will tell. When I get it mounted up and put some runnin time on the turrets...I'll give a more detailed review with pics.
