Mini 14 convert to 6x45mm?

First post here. Glad to be here and hope to meet some like minded people and learn a thing or two.

I've recently been looking at having my Mini 14 customized by a company. They told me that my caliber options (other than a re-barrel in .223 with a faster twist to handle heavier bullets) were 6x45mm or 300 Whisper.

I am really interested in the 6x45 to breath new life in my Mini as I don't use it much. I already own 2 Bushmasters in .223. I am considering this custom rifle for use as a close range (under 150) deer rifle.

Now that I am seeing that factory ammo might be a little easier to find, I am really thinking of having the rifle re-done in that caliber.

What are everyone's thoughts?

1. Re-do the gun keeping it .223 but with a faster twist to handle heavier bullets?

2. Re-do the gun in 6x45, keeping in mind that I don't reload for rifle yet?

Thank you!!

if I were to pay that much to customize a mini, Id get the diff chambering, why spend all that money to get something you already have, an accurate .223 ie the ARs

Just my opinion.
if the prices on ammo keep going up we will all be rollng our own, might as well start now. LOL

I've been shooting a 6x45 for about 10yrs. I use it for coyotes but would feel real comfortable with with it loaded with 85gr NPT's on your smaller southern deer.

Why would you spend money customizing the mini-14 when there are so many quality AR's available that you can build just about any flavor you want.

Why would someone put a "match grade" trigger in an SKS? I've seen a couple of mini's that were customized by a company, name slips me now, that looked really nice. I don't have a clue how they shoot. If it floats your boat and you got the $$, go for it. If I had all the above, I would at least get a different caliber. JMO

I have a 223 mini done by accuracy systems, and it shoots awsome. I would like for it to be a differnt caliber...and the 6x45 would be a awsome little round. I like the feel of the mini more then the AR, and it is lighter...Like pyscodog said, if you have the money, go for it. Don't think you will be disapointed if they fix it up right. I think the biggest thing wrong with the stock mini is the barrel. If you get a heavy barrel, find somewhere that uses a barrel that is heavy all through the gas block and under the hand guard. My vote goes for the 6x45, and don't forget the pictures when you get it done.

I really thought that I wanted a AR till I held a few.I really like the way the MINI fits in my hand and for the same price I would buy a mini.I to looked at accuracy systems but right now the cash isn't there.
