Mini -14 Target Model...

What the heck?...been waitin to read anything about these things in actual peoples hands and what they're capable of? Are they not available yet? Anybody got one yet? Anyone know where any range reports can be found yet? As a Canadian we have very few semi-auto choices available...so its a rare day when we may have access to a sub-moa capable semi-auto. For some reason we are allowed mini-14's but none of the other great stuff that yall have access too. I hold my breath in waiting to hear more about these rifles...specifically range reports from actual buyers! Help... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Ruger is usually as slow or slower than others in getting out new products after they begin advertising them. Given that the latest threatend ban includes that design Ruger could be holding off production until it gets sorted out and defeated.

As far as them being sub-MOA...well, that's yet to be proven anywhere except in a gun magazine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You might want to look on www.204ruger.com and do a search there. There's lots of info there about stuff other than the .204

All I know is that, to my eyes they are as ugly as sin, and you could get a much better shootin' gun, without all the do-dads attached. The mini-14 was designed to be a reliable carry rifle, not a tackdriver. I, personally think this rifle will be a flop, especially with all the ar-15's out there known for accuracy, but don't get me wrong, if you want a lightweight, no fail semi auto, the mini-14 it is.

We will see, I have no use for AR's, if the Mini can be depended on to ALWAYS STAY UNDER 2 INCHES at 100 yards I am going to buy one. I see is is out in 6.8 too.hmmmmmm
BUT I have to be convinced of that.

No doubt! Thats why i'm waitin to hear some real range reports...i'll take the magazine article with a grain of salt. Much prefer us regular guys opinions on the forums etc. Much more 'real' to me.

Anyhow, there was a thread awhile ago where a guy said he'd shot two but needed sleep and was gonna come back and tell us...he never did. Just figured its been a few weeks since then that some others must have shot them by now?

Whats this 'ban' your talking about?

And yes, its ugly, would hope to get a more traditional aftermarket stock and that it shoot without the goofy barrel weight. I don't have access to the 'AR' types that you guys do...so don't blame yall for not buying more rugers lol. We're allowed to have the ruger...so the thought of one coming here that could 'potentially' shoot more than a milk jug at a couple hundred yards is appealing...at least to my recreational coyote calling arse it is... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

The ban is the same one that just went out. The Dem's are trying to push this through again with more added to it, this time for the next 10 years! I told you guys it would not be long at all before they got the gun grap going again.

Blake, check the thread talking about HR 1022. I will bring it to the top for you.

I fondeled one today, and handed right back to the sales guy, not impressed at all. It has this huge goober looking boss thingy on the muzzle that looks like an aftermaket hickup, sorry, but for about 800 bucks I'll stick to AR's.

Looking at the price of the new Mini you could get a pretty good AR 15 but in Canada that probably isn't an option. Your government understands the real limitations of the Mini not to fear throwing rocks would place them in as much peril.

Correct! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif For that much money, you could have a nice AR,and it would be a shooter! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

O K all of you AR guys read his post, the AR is not an option in Canada. This reads he cannot have an AR. what I would do is look for a used mini and do a little work to make it a shooter. I found one with an after market Douglas barrel and maybe some more work done to it for $600.00 American dollars and it shoots sub moa. I know you all like your ars and someday I will have one but when I ask for permission to hunt some land, the land owner don't freak when I pull out my mini like some do when you pull out an AR. not bashing ars like I said that will most likely be my next gun.

Ok, I did as directed and read your post.

Still, I must be hunting in the wrong places. I've never had a land owner "freak" yet when I pulled out an AR.

Wow, HR1022...something like it or worse has obviously already been passed in my part of the world. Keep on fighting it...what a bunch of bull.

We can still have ruger mini-14's and browning bar types but they are working to ban all semi-auto's in my part of the world now. Some crazy bugger walks into a school with a mini-14 and starts shootin....must be the gun's fault. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Anyhow, it'll be just my luck, i'll get my first centerfire semi someday and the next year they'll try and take it away. If the mini doesn't shoot i think i'll just go for a bar short trac stalker in .243 and try and have some fun with it for as long as i can.
