Mini Red Dot

Anybody mount a Burris Fastfire or other mini red dot on top of their scope? if so did you have enough adjustment to sight it in to say 25 yards?

I don't have a ton of experience with this but I did help a buddy mount a Fastfire on a PEPR mount a couple of weeks ago. We had no trouble sighting it in at 50 yards. If I remember correctly, the instruction book stated that it had well over 100 MOA of adjustment. EDIT: Instruction book claims 190" of adjustment at 100 yards.

On a side note, I was not at all impressed with actually shooting it with the Fastfire on the PEPR. Puts the Fastfire way to high. Consistent cheek weld is impossible. I will be mounting a dot on my ARs soon and will try a 1 o'clock rail mount.

I have plenty of experience on this and 25 yards was no problem at all with the Warne RAMP mount. I keep mine sighted in at 20 yards, which puts it a little high at 50.

The Warne RAMP mount allows for a perfect cheek weld -- just rotate the rifle from your natural scope-sighting position. I have tried the RAMP, a 1 o'clock mount, and the J-point (on top like the PEPR). Once you try the RAMP you won't even consider the others.

I had a perp mount on my M4 while I was in Iraq, and had a reflex site on top. I had no issues at all with sighting it at 100yrds, I sighted it the same day I sighted in my 3-9 scope. Anytime I engaged targets under 100yrds or if I was clearing houses and buildings I used it with great results. Another plus is also , once you do get it sighted in you don't have to have the dot in the middle of the sight glass, as long as you can see the dot no matter the angle you'll be on target so don't worry with check weld. Thats why they are called reflex sights ,for quicker target acquisition allowing you to shoot with both eyes open.

Not trying to hi-jack either , just throwing in some of my experience with the topic . I have also taken targets at 300 meters on military ranges with the reflex alone. (Nice rifle sendit)
Sorry Hogstir , yeah you'll be just fine at 25yrds.

Great points about the reflex sight and thank you for your service spears08.

For me it was easier to find the red dot with the RAMP in a side by side comparison with the J-point and the YHM 45 degree dovetail mount.

I have nowhere near the experience you have (quantity or seriousness) spears08. My post reflects my preference.

And thanks. It used to look like that. Now it has dirt, gas residue, and coyote blood on it.

Thanks sendit ,I apprecciate the support. That would be a great set up to use for when we do our qualification with the gas mask on. Just too bad they will only let us use the standard battle sights then. As far rotating the rifle , it's the same principle du to the fact that if you don't there is no way to even see the sights decently much less line them up to get a shot with those mask on.

I've actually been thinking about doing the same set up you have , but I'm so used to just placing the buttstock on my chest when using the perp mount , it's a natural movement for me at this point. I think it would take me a while to build up the muscle memory for it .

Yeah I was just meaning to say what worked best for me , but all in all same principle. Just everyone finding their own perfect method. (nothing wrong with a little dirt and coyote blood , But I like to try and keep the gas in the tank;) especially with the price of it.

Here is couple ways to mount a secondary red-dot sight. Neither option is cheap.

This is the Burris Fast-Fire on a Larue mount. You can't get a tight cheek-weld, but at ranges up to 75 yards to can learn to live with it.

This is the TNVC-3PS mount that clamps on the scope. This gives a slightly better cheek-weld, and it allows the use of the better Aimpoint Micro sights. When you have the big turrets, your somewhat limited.

The Warne RAMP mount looks like a workable setup, but I have not tried it yet.

I had no problems getting either setup sighted in for any distance from 25 yard to over 100 yards.
