A fairly good rule of thumb is that you can go up to .010 above and below the trim length. In a rimmed case like the 30-30, it is more important to have them all the same length (+- .002) so your crimps come out even on the cannelure or crimping groove. Be sure your measuring and trimming the FL sized cases, or better yet, the FL sized cases fired in your rifle. Sometimes it's a good idea to separate the ones over the published trim length and trim them to the spec trim length. The shorter ones can be handled in a separate batch trimmed to a shorter common length.

Jim hit it right on the head. AS long as they are the all the same length .002 isnt going to make much of a difference. I shot a .219 Zipper (.30-30 necked down) for years and all the brass I had I made from .30-30 or .25-35 brass and after the trimming and turning required it all ended up .003 shorter than what the book called for. that gun would shoot in .660"s for 3 shots on a nice day.......load them up.

+1
When I trim cases, I trim them .010 short.
As said, for 30-30 cases it is a must that they all be the same length so the crimps are uniform.
