I went out scouting today the main area I predator hunt, and I saw a few mink running around out there today, I know most people trap these little guys, but does anyone have any advice on hunting them, lures, bait. calling methods? I think a .22 LR will do the job. I would like to try this this hunting season.

Scott12,
You might want to check the regulations for your state concerning taking mink and weasle (a.k.a. ermine). Many states have specific seasons and method of take. No doubt the .22 would put them down. Luring might not be the best method on these critters, unless you intend to spend a LOT of time waiting for them to respond. You might check out a Fur Fish and Game magazine to learn more about these animals and the accepted methods for harvesting them. Good luck in your quest for knowledge.

IF its leagal then mouse squeks or a bird distress will work. also there are more than one weasel. Ermine is a term for the long tailed weasel. there is a least weasel, and short tailed, mink and black footed ferret are closest relatives.

Thanks for your input guys! It is legal here in NY state during their trapping season, to also hunt them with no larger than .22 caliber.
