Minnesota license requirements to hunt Coyotes and Fox?

Silly question, I guess, and I could just contact the DNR, but why not go to the people who know? What is the license requirement in Minnesota to hunt Coyotes and Fox (Small Game, Trapping)? Thanks guys!

Ron

Never take the word of someone who tells you what the laws are on an internet board. You need to get the rules and make sense of them yourself. Then, when you are totally confused, you call St. Paul office of the DNR and get even more confused.

Seriously, check the laws out in the handbook or on the 'net.

You'll be glad you did.

i just looked this up yesterday on their website and you cant make heads or tails of it... as is typical with all states they are vague in their laws(not detailed enough)... ive searched different states ive considered going to.. each time i end up throwing up my hands and saying forget it.. ill just stay close to home.. sometimes its just not worth the hassle..

If you are a MN resident or a non-resident you do NOT need a license to hunt coyotes. You can hunt them all year round, and take as many as you want, and that is if you just plan on Shooting the yotes. As for the fox YES you need a small game license, and there is a season.

2008 hunting seasons, opening and closing dates, application deadlines
UNPROTECTED ANIMALS
Residents and nonresidents are not required to have a license to take
unprotected species
including coyote. Nonresidents do not need a furbearer
hunting license in addition to their small game license to hunt fox.
Unprotected Mammals
Weasels, coyotes, gophers,
porcupines,
striped skunks, and all
other mammals
for which there are no closed seasons or other protection
are unprotected
animals. They may be taken in any manner,
except with the aid of artificial lights or by using a motor vehicle to
drive, chase, run over, or kill the animal. Poisons may not be used
except in accordance with all label regulations
of the state Dept. of
Agriculture and federal Environmental
Protection
Agency.

I think you for got the (NOT) after the do.

MN resident or a non-resident don't have to have a license to hunt unprotected species including the coyote.

From the book in a nutshell...

A nonresident Furbearer Hunting License is no longer required
to take fox and coyote. However, a Small Game License is still
required to take small game, which includes fox.

MN Hunter, how have you been doing this year? Any good action? Too bad we couldn't get together for waterfowl this year. Sounds like you may have had a much better season than I did!

We'll have to pester Randy for another LOTW trip!

Randy so far this year I have taken 4 yotes, while running with the hounds. The last one I got was a pretty BIG one, the scale kept reading 45 to 47lbs. I took the pics with my phone and I will send them to ya. As for the waterfowl, it was an awesome year, I made it into the triple digits for the birds fallen out of the sky. The Goose hunting was pretty intense as well. Man do I have a story to tell you. I got a call from a friend of mine that helps out with the Illusion calls, who also helps out Dean Tlougan the owner of Premier Flight Guide service out of Rochester MN. Anyway some guides were coming up from Tennessee and Illinois. that are friends of Deans, and they wanted to do some Duck hunting on the river. Well I received a call, and asked if I would take them Hunting, and I think I blinked twice before I said well [beeep] yah /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif. These guides were very impressed on my calling and the shooting action, I was able to give to them (we killed a lot of ducks). The guide from Tennessee was so impressed He called to of his buddies in Tennessee and told them about it. His buddies drove over night and hunting with us for the next to days. At the end of the day I was asked if I wanted to get into Guiding with there outfit, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif that answer yes came out of my mouth faster then a heartbeat /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. They have guys already signed up for 2009. I am going down to there outfit in Feb. and Mar. to do some duck hunting and snow goose hunting. There outfit is called Riverside Outfitters

Wow! That sounds interesting. Will you just take vacation from your job or is this looking to be a new venture for you?

All I know for sure is that it would be a nice break to get the heck out of this cold!

Yah I was kinda shocked that they asked, but they were dead serious. I will not need to take vac. to go down there, durning each month. I get my little 7 days off in a row vac, every month so it will work out for me. As for a new adventure? i am just going take it slow for now, and evening if it gets rocking and rolling, It will just be a part time passion /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif I couldn't think and afford to leave that job I enjoy now. Its just crazy that they pay me to carrie a weapon /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
