we are going to missouri sat to rabbit hunt and i thought about takin my stuff and stayin the night and doin some callin sunday. any special restrictions for out of staters. calibers and shot size? and anything else i need to know thanks guys.

Coyote hunting just requires a normal 'non-resident' hunting license since you are from another state..

No hunting with artificial lights, unless coon hunting...

There is a chart that gives the 'official' sunrise and sunset times on the MO Wildlife/Conservation website...and it's calibrated (+/- minutes) by your location from the State Capitol in Jefferson City...

"road hunting" is generally illegal and there are specific distances you must be from a public roadway to shoot a firearm. It would be a good idea to pull up the website and read the regs...

good info here!

thanks guys. i'll be in southeast missouri around steele. i assume it'll offer some great calling. i know just north of there around cairo we see yotes up and down the road dang near everytime we go.

I know there are lots of turkeys that's for sure. It's been a few years but I spent a week in Wright Co. hunting birds but I didn't get to hunt some fantastic countryside for predators.

Good luck!

if i read this correctly i have to buy a $130 furbearer hunting license to hunt yotes. am i reading correctly? and you can't hunt with shot larger than #4 and rifle can't be a cenerfire it has to be a .22 rimfire or smaller?

Well, you're reading part of it correctly.

I don't have the regs in front of me, but I'm 99.9% sure you're reading the firearm restrictions wrong. Maybe certain areas restrict to rimfire, but not the whole state.

However, you are right about the $130 "non-resident furbearer hunting license".
Most Missouri residents don't even know about it because it doesn't exist for residents.
In other words, there isn't a resident furbearer hunting license.

I've argued with ALOT of Missouri residents about this. They all seem to think that all you need is a small game license, since that's all they have to have, but it's just not so.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I thought you should know the facts.

Here's where the problem is. Missouri classifies Coyotes as furbearers. Even though we all know that biologically, they are furbearers, they shouldn't class them with the rest of the furbearers.
My guess is they came up with this license to get money from out of staters coming to Missouri to do competion coon hunts. And since Coyotes are classed with Raccoons, the Coyote hunters have to pay too. Like I said, just a guess.
Either way it stinks. There are alot of places I could hunt in Missouri, I just have a hard time paying $130 to shoot someone's Coyotes that, more than likely, need shot anyway.

I'm not sure about the license, it does seem that is the deal for non-residents if you intend to hunt bobcats, fox, or one of the other animals classified as a "furbearer." There is a list of furbearer animals on the MDC website. For coyotes only I think a non-resident small game license should work, but you'd better call the MDC HQ main office in Jefferson City for the final word on that. The firearms restrictions you quoted aren't correct. We have no restrictions on firearms for predators other than no FMJ's in rifles, ten shot limits on rifle magazines, and shotguns must be plugged with a max capacity of no more than three shells total. Any shot size or caliber is good to go, though we of course know some work better than others. Wait... when are you timing your trip? There are some restrictions for shotgun shot size during the general firearms deer season in November.

thanks alot GC i was waitin for you to chime in. we go rabbit hunting there quiet a bit but our first trip is gonna be saturday. i'll definitely call about the license ordeal

Hey, I was wrong - coyotes are on the furbearer list and you would need the more expensive Furbearer License.

we go to kansas a couple times a year and it's not to bad unless you wanna shoot a bobcat then it costs like $102 per cat or something like that

i live in missouri and for the most part u can use a centerfire rifle i think u just have to get small game tag to hunt yotes

GC what? heck yeah ya'll are loaded with rabbits. we pretty much have races all day. just tough shootin with the 10 ft tall johnson grasses on those mile section fields and the wind is tough on the dogs sometimes. i've seen a rabbit run down the field line andthe dogs runnin a good thirty yards downwind of the trail. but lotsa bunnies. especially compared to tn

I went down that way one time (Hornersville, MO) for a rabbit stompin' hunt with my dad and son. There was a light snow on and we didn't jump a single rabbit. We didn't have dogs, but there were very few tracks in the snow and little sign in the place we went. They're supposed to be thick in the Bootheel, I can never seem to find them. I grew up following a small pack of beagles and chasing bunnies, good times, good times.

Well, good luck on the phone call, but they might not know either...really.
We had a trip planned last year, and I was sure all you had to have was the non res small game license, but my buddy discovered the non res furbearer hunting license and we were both a little confused.
He called one of the MDC offices and they kept transferring him because they couldn't make heads or tails out of it either! Finally, they put him with someone way up the food chain in Jeff City
[I think], and he confirmed it.
You gotta buy it to be legal.
Sorry.

The difference with Kansas is KDWP doesn't classify Coyotes as a furbearer.
But, [not to muddy the waters any more than they already are], now they have a non res Bobcat permit. And...guess what...yep...there's no such thing as a res Bobcat permit.

They all just want the out of staters money.

It costs Me $160.00 to hunt coyotes in WI. I think its nuts.

This past spring I was in MO. The Moberly area, turkey hunting. That was an expensive licence, If I remember rite it was $180.00. Saw lots of rabbits there also. In the morning on the way in they were running all over in front of the ATV.

I agree, coyotes should be more affordable for an out of state hunter. If I'm ever there besides during turkey season, coyote season is closed then, I would like to try some calling, but probably won't for $130.00.
