MN Predator Guide

I'm a long time hunter but new to coyote hunting and I'd like to spend a day or two with a guide to learn how-to strategies, calling tips, etc. I've seen guides listed in other states, but not Minnesota. Does anyone have any suggestions for a guide in MN?

I don't think there isn't anything a guide will teach you that a video won't. The learning curve, for me at least, has been slower than what I expected. What it really comes down to is being willing to spend the time doing it. Where are you located? For most of us in MN it is a lot of night calling under the full moon.

Welcome Mark.

Get in touch with a member here that uses the name TA17REM. He's not a guide, but I think he did stay in a Holiday Inn once (or twice). He lives in MN and is literally oozing with how to strategies, calling tips, etc...A lot of folks consider him the resident expert at all things coyote related. He'll get ya headed down the correct path. Good luck to ya.

LMAO.. Normaly i stay at the super 8 when on the road.. Bet you did'nt know that..

MNMark: Where are you located, maybe i can help and then again maybe not...

A lot of guys on here, including myself, I think would be willing to help out. Most will be up front and ask you to stay away from the areas they hunt though when you go out on your own. especially those close to the cities. It really bums me out when I find that a farmer that I have been getting permission from for the last 4 or 5 years has given permission to someone else too. It doesn't mean I won't still hunt it, but it just makes the animals that much more difficult to call in.

I'm a 2 hr drive south west of the cities. If you are serious and willing to make the drive then i could help out. Or if you have a good number of places to hunt nearby then i could make the drive.. I do have some places around Buffalo but not big or enough for a days worth of calling.. Daytime calling only..

TA17, I really appreciate the offer. I have no problem driving down to you. I will try to contact you after Thanksgiving so we can get a day on the calendar. I do have one quick question for you. I'm a turkey hunter, so all my camo is realtree hardwoods which is pretty dark for dried grass and open areas. What camo do you recommend for this time of year when there isn't snow?

I hear ya... I've been burned more than once in that respect.

I've got plenty of my own areas, mostly private property. I would not think, even for a second, to step on another hunter's areas. I'm mostly looking for instruction / examples of real world calling. Somethings you just can't learn from a book or video. Heck... I wouldn't even carry a gun. I just want to SEE how it's done.

Mnmark, I'm about 45 min west of you. Your more then welcome to come out with us this winter. We're are not pros by no means, but have plenty of property to play on. I agree with Tka250 about having other hunters around on the same grounds, but there is no way of knowing where everyone else hunts. I'm thinking that most if not all decent looking spots are being called these days for predators.

MNmark looks like we are looking for the same think I am in bloom. I havent found a place close yet got I got my eyes on a spot in mc greger. its got a hill on the south side with a good a field/old parking lot coverd in nee hi grass woods on the far end that dumps it to s BIG swamp.maby we could hook up? this is funny we were up there deer hunting not seeing a thing. we were talking about pred. hunting and he said there isnt any up here the next morn (still dark) thay were ALL howling I will U give 1 gess what I thought. I would have to agree with everyone one here with what was said and the big part to me on what was said is the "hunting land part" ill say no more about that!!!
The movies will help a lot if you have not tryed them yet that is no joke, How ever the night hunting in MN is much much harder to do if you ask me 99% of the movies that are out are day time calling bummer I know

..
Its hard enuff to call a fox and coyote in on its own but then you throw in the night time calling just makes it that much harder, on top of that new coyote hunters dont know what to look for when calling at night time I have had two guys that I guided now that let them run right by them and I mean right by them..
I asked did you see it they say no,that is cuz they dont know what to look for most of the time and its not there fault by any means they just dont know what to look for thats all..
I have Guided some night time hunting in the last two years and its hard to do that is no lie..
How ever I have ways around that now to help new coyote hunters out..
I and a friend this last year came up with a few new ways from taking people out at night time it seems to work out very very well for the most part
