Mojo Dove ("Flicker") A Winner in the First Go Round

A while back I got to thinking about all the Northern (Red-Shafted) Flickers I see on the ground out here. So, when our local Wal-Mart had Mojo Doves on clearance, I bought one and painted him up to look like a flicker. My thinking? Add Foxpro's Flicker Distress call from my FX3 and stir. I have been saving that combo for the late season knowing I needed an option from the usual rabbit sounds, which by now probably have all the appeal of "AM radio" to smart coyotes. Well, 2 minutes after "activation" a Sharp-Shinned Hawk stooped on it and pulled up(at the last second) to land in the tree above. 1 minute later a medium sized sandy colored coyote trots in and my partner flat out misses him twice at 120 yards. DOH! New gun, new shooter, new game (for him). But the Mojo Dove conversion was an instant success! To me it looks like a better predator decoy (bobcat especially) than a dove decoy, and since doves don't make much noise on the ground, the Flicker conversion seemed the practical choice. The Flicker distress sound has a very desperate pitch and cadence...the coyote HAD to come in. Try it, you'll like it.
