Monopod vs. Bipod

Which do you use and why? I like the telescopic height (63") but I'm unsure of their steadiness. I like the steadiness of the bipods but don't like the short height for ALL situations.

I'm ready to buy one of the above ....
what are your suggestions

Thanx

I like a bipod for steadiness, but I do see where a monopod would come in handy. Versa-pod offers both for there setup--just snap one off and put the other on. You might check that out.

I got the cheapie Cabela's monopod for Christmas this year. It is a good addition to my hunting equipment. It is not nearly as steady as my Harris bipod, but it certainly beats an offhand shot. I have started using it on my coyote stands now that I'm hunting with my Encore. Haven't used it to shoot off of yet (at least not at game), but it's nice to know it's there for those longer shots. It also works quite nicely to stabilize your binos for long distance glassing when you can't hunker down and use your knees. I don't know if I'd spend $50 or more, but for $20, the one I got is a worthwhile investment.

A bipod is great if you're after long range chucks and you have the luxury of knowing where you'll be shooting within a few feet. But if it's for hunting fox and yotes, they don't allow much mobility to the rifle on stand. The legs hit and bang the brush as you swivel. Make a set of shooting sticks and you'll be better off. Bipods look cool on a gun, but...
