Anyone have one and what do you think of them? Thanks for any info /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have one and love it. Not too heavy, shoots and patterns well with Federal 3" 2oz of #4 shot. Failsafe firearm.

My dad has one that I used when I first got into turkey hunting about 4 years ago. Overall its a good shooting gun and I had no problem killing my first turkey with it. With that being said I now have a Remington 870 Express Super Magnum that I love. I wouldnt hesitate to buy the gun you are asking about but personally I dont think it is built as well as my Remington. To me the forend seems loser than what it should be. Im sure its just the way they are built and theres nothing wrond with it but I never did shoot it that much and it could just be that I am so used to mine. Like JFFBANDIT said it is pretty light and easy to pack around if your into locating birds then stalking them. Overall I think you would be pleased with one. Good luck and let us know what you get. Its a cheaply made afordable shotgun. I can tell you even though there are better choices out there for a little more money I have been extremely impressed with some of the patterns the 835s give. A couple of my friends have them and they pattern almost as tight as my 10 gauge with their overbore barrels. The only thing I dont like about them is the MONSTER recoil of a 3.5" turkey shell. Even with the ported barrel it purples your shoulder on one shot. Theres no such thing as a quick follow up shot using 3.5" shells.

I can't same enough of how good mine patterns 3" win supreme double X mag turkey loads in #6. Some of my friends with their high$$ guns don't come close. As what Dultimat stated when shooting the turkey loads I don't know who rolls over harder, me or the turkey? But it's not bad with shooting 3" buckshot.

I bought one last year this time. Pistol grip is great, and it shoots well, its light, I love it. For the price its a great buy.

I got mine 3 seasons back,I liked it,put a knoxx recoil system stock on it and then I loved it.A world of diffrence not thinking about the recoil when you shoot.

Hands down one of the best turkey guns out there. The price also makes it better than alot of others too. Mine was stolen in January and haven't replaced it yet. I also have the 535 Mossy and I think it is just as good just a little lighter. The only mod I ever made was a Sims buttpad. They make an incredible diference when shooting 3.5 shells.

I didn't think anything could touch my 870SuperMag but my buddies 835 quite frankly is scary good out to 60yds and thats as far as he shot it, I believe he could have got his turkey loads to pattern even farther. I will say in defense of my 870 I like my shorter barrel especially when majority of my turkeys are shot at 30yds or less.

I own two of them....Love em' both...great value and a well made gun in my eyes...Tough to beat for the cost!!!!!!.... yeahhhh..they do kick a bit......lol....

With 3.5" hot turkey loads they kill on one end and maim on the other. Mine is one of the earliest with the NWTF medallion in the buttstock, synthetic and factory painted with no porting. I think I gave 200 bucks for it years ago, right after a guy bought it new and killed one turkey with it, he couldn't stand the recoil.

It don't take 3.5" shells to kill a turkey either.

I am still flinching thinking about it. With 3.5" shells those Mossbergs kick worse than my 375 RUM using a 260g bullet full throttle loads. That shotgun will rock your socks off with 3.5" shells. I still say 3.5" shells should have been left for the mighty 10.

You guys are right about what the gun will do with recoil with a 3.5 magnum... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

It's not TOO tame on a 3" mag either. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

But, after nearly taking my nose off shooting a 3.5 one day, I decided to do something about it.

I incorporated my own design of a recoil system that is easy & WORKS. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I first took the buttplate off & used soft, pliable foam rubber in the front of the buttstock. Then I poured in about 3/4 pound of nickle plated Daisy BB's...
Next I took more foam rubber and packed the space behind them, forward of the buttplate....I left plenty of the foam sticking out, & had to force it into the buttplate while attaching the kickpad.

This system adds a little weight to the gun, but, I feel it was needed. It was front heavy to begin with. Now it's way more balanced.

The BB's also reduce the felt recoil by dampening the effect of it with the "give" of the weight of the BB's....That, combined with the added weight makes the 835 UltiMag a whole new animal. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Be sure & pack the foam in tight enough that the BB's don't rattle. Mine won't make a sound, even if shaken real hard.

Hope this helps some of you guys recoil issues.

You guys think the ulti turkey kicks hard you should trip the trigger on the tactical turkey model with the short pipe and super light 6 position collapsable stock. The pistol grip does nothing to help recoil!!!

A regular ol' 3inch mag with 1 7/8 BB lead plain hurt! I never had the stones to try a 3 1/2.

Then I found out.....
Limbsaver makes a pad for them regular style stocked 835's I picked one up and modified it to fit the 6pos. stock on mine, its been a whole different shotgun since, it took the bite out of shooting it..... or is that.......I quit biting the stock when shooting it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I bought a used Benelli Nova when they firts came out to give to my step son. When the gun came in I wanted to shoot this space age looking beauty. That rascal knocked the taste out of my mouth! I have never seen a "brick" on the back end of a shotgun stock before. I'm sure the Italians hve discovered rubber by now, LOL!

I sold my 835 cuz I was too used to an auto. I got the Mossy 930 3 years ago and love it.

I had a 835 it would kick the taste out of your mouth, sold it and bought the 535 with collapsable stock and IMO its much easier to shoot even with the 3.5 inch dead coyotes.

I remember the first one I bought. We bought it in a country hardware store while trout fishing. The guy gave me a great deal. I wanted to shoot the shotgun so I stopped along the country road and loaded her up. My buddy put up a Pepsi can at about 40 yards. I braced my hand against an oak tree and pulled the trigger. I had blood coming from 2 of my knuckles, and tore the skin on one more. Those shotguns kick like a mule with those plastic stocks.

If you feel the need for a 3-1/2 inch and you enjoy getting the snot kicked out of you then I would recommend one. However if you need the 3-1/2 inch then I would look at some sort of gas operated semi-auto or a shotgun that kicks less. I sold the Mossberg pretty fast. I have no need for a firearm that I do not enjoy shooting. Tom.
