Mountain Cur, breed or cross?

I hunt and raise mnt curs now for the last 15 years. They can do anything a hound can a many the hounds can't.It depends on the line or strian you get whether it is open ,big ,small, black, brindle, red or yellow. Most mnt curs are very smart and want to be your buddy, this makes them great to use for decoy and trapping dogs. Many strains are open on a track,my best decoy dog is very open and barks a lot when working a coyote to gun range. When you make a bad shot these dogs will find every cripple you put then on.And if you happen to miss a bobcat or lion then can catch it for you.My mnt cur males are 65-70 pounds and most females are 50 pounds. These are the bigger types and work for me on hogs, bear, lions, bobcat and yotes.See ya Mav

got one of them curs that will run a 8 hour old cat track in the snow, jump, run hard, tree and stay treed and be open on track all the way?

I dont know about crossing but a good Cur with a little bit of size like some of Kemmers bred for big game could work well with sighthounds.I'm sure they couldn't keep up but they wont be far behind.I guess the main thing you would gain is some extra horsepower after the catch.

Thank you for clearing up the matter. They are an interesting breed that I will look into in the future. Just do not want another dog right now.

MH Wash,
I've posted several stories on hunting with Bubba. Do a search if you haven't already read them. Bubba is @ 70# or so. What a great dog. I've had labs for years but these cur dogs are quickly becoming my favorite breed.
