Mountain Lion
This is part of a two-part post, the second being one about Hawks. I went Rabbit hunting on Saturday evening May 14, 2005. I arrived at my turn off, approximately 10 miles North of Rankin, Texas at 7:10 pm. I turned onto this old caliche road and lying on the North side was a LARGE object. I stopped 50 yards from this object not wanting to proceed until I knew what it was. Note, I do not load guns or even have them out until we are on legal to hunt land so I had noting at hand to shoot with. Sitting and watching for 30 or so seconds, it stands and turns, it is long and low w/ a VERY LONG THICK TAIL. My first ever MOUNTAIN LION. It walks slowly off into the thick West Texas mesquite brush. What a thrill! Did not know that they even lived anywhere near here. Truly an incredible sight. Do not know if I had had the gun ready if I would shoot this animal.

Very unique evening last night. PS rabbit hunting was truly awesome! Check out the Hawks post.

Reasons similar to that is why my guns are always ready, or so near ready it don't take but half a second to be ready to fire a shot. I never know what I may come across on the way into the hills, but if I come across it, I'm ready for a shot if the chance comes.
