mounting bases on Remington 700 LV SF

Just got in my new Remington 700 LV SF chambered in .17 Rem and man what a good looking/feeling gun!
The Leupold bases that I purchased have different length mounting screws and the instructions don't say where to use the short screws and where to use the long. I tried both lengths in both the front and rear holes and they seem to work in any configuration without interfering with the bolt or protruding through the action.
Can somebody help me with this so I can go shootin'?
Many thanks in advance!!

Shortest screws in the front two holes. The barrel threads and locking lug recess are under the front holes, shine a light into the hole, you can see the threads. That’s the only thing you have to watch out for. Don’t use a long screw and twist it off in the hole against the threads.

If I get it dialed in I'll post some groups. The local shops only had 1 box of ammo in stock so it is going to be a short outing LOL!
I did notice one thing that is driving me nuts. There is something rattling inside the hollow buttstock portion of the gun. The buttpad must be glued on in addition to the screws because it won't come off when the screws are removed. I took the action out of the barrel to see if there was by chance a hole going through the pistol grip area which would allow access but there isn't.
Only thing I can think of is material left over from making the stock. No big deal but a little disappointing considering the price tag.

Welcome to the board Luv.

If you can only shoot Rem factory in your rifle don't be alarmed about the accuracy. It may or may not shoot that stuff at all. You need to reload to get the most from a .17 Rem. Let us know what you find out
