Might suggest that you disassemble rings from action. Turn the elevation adjustment on your scope from stop all the way one way, all the way the other way, count the total number of clicks from stop to stop. Adjust it back half of that total. That will, in theory put your adjustment at its mid point. Forget the dam shims, if you tighten your rings down on a scope and you have shims under one half of a two piece mount it will mess up the scope tube.
