Anybody have any good ways to move a 1800lb gun save? I have a dolly but only rated for 1200lbs. Any suggestions would be help full. Last time I moved it I called a local safe company but that cost me 200.00 dont have the money this time. I have to load it on a trailer and move it about 1 mile down the road. It is in the garge and will be going to a garge.

I think you need to provide where it's located, where you want to go, and what kind of surface you are traversing... All factors will dictate your responses..

To do it safely, all normal factors considered, $200 is generally considered a really good price, unless it's just across a room...

Call the safe company and see if they will do the move for a gun or tool or something you don't really need! Can't hurt! But it can hurt if you break your back or something trying to move the safe.

Good hunting!

Empty the safe as much as possible, remove the door if thats an option. Tilt the safe to where you can get a WELL MADE pallet underneath then use a pallet jack to move it.

There is a type of dolly that will handle it. I just cant remember the exact name of the thing. It is a two piece design, shaped like a regular appliance dolly but much shorter. One goes under each end of the safe and then straps connect the two dollys. Each one of them has a cam over type deal that lifts the safe and lowers a set of wheels at the same time. I have used these to more fireproof lateral files fully loaded. The only problem I see would be that a gun safe would be very very top heavy. We always laid plywood on the floor and even then we would have problems with the wheels digging in. Its not going to be a easy thing to move no matter how you look at it.

The pallet jack is the safest like Griz mentioned. Out here on the farm we use it to move alot of things. The wheels are wide enough to keep from digging in and it stable.

mine is a 1200 pound model and I empty it and use golf balls
just me and my 90 pound wife. now it does flatten the golf balls out a tad but they don't dig in even in carpeting.

i'd say cut a hole in the roof and i'll set it in with my digger truck lol maybe build a house around it.

Heres what I'm going to do. Rent a trailer that the bed drops to the ground, then tilt the safe back put golf balls under it push it on to the trailer and tie it down.I almost think it will work thanks for all the advice.

Before you start, work out a "Plan B"....I've tried a lot of things (thinking it will work) in the past and realized that without a Plan B, it can get to be a little embarrassing...as well as frustrating..

This won't be much help it this point but I would build a pallet for it and once I had it on the pallet never take it off. Nail a couple of boards on the ends after you move it so that it looks like a stand of some kind rather than a pallet.

$200.00 to move the thing? Sounds like a bargain to me. Mostly because someone elses back is the one that will get messed up. Mine's bad enough already.

And more importantly, somebody else's liability insurance will cover any problems encountered. Anything from a $100 hole in the wall or floor to a $50,000 broken leg.

I have used several pipes and a winch to pull a 2000 pound mill onto a trailer before, you could also use a come a long. just make sure you don't hurt yourself.
