Muzzle brake help

Which muzzle brake should I be looking at for my American Predator 243? Like to keep it under $75. Interested primarily in reduced muzzle flip and recoil reduction. Thanks for any tips from you guys that have em already. I have never had one and know nothing about the various designs and shapes.

Barrel is factory threaded and ready to screw one on. Where did you guys buy yours? Found lots of places online that sell them but there are so many designs that seem to be for one purpose or another. Is there a good site that explains how all the different venting patterns and holes affect recoil?

Get a Ross Schuler brake. They have a sleek 3 chamber design to reduce recoil and top ports to reduce muzzle climb with a flat bottom so it doesn't kick up dust when shooting prone. They are really effective and only cost $45.

Shooting a gun with a muzzlebrake even a soft shooting cal like .243 is a pleasure...followups are quicker and if the barrel is already threaded...you have to do it...Way cool and we want to see pics.

Oh my goodness yes. I had George Vais install one of his famous muzzle brakes on my .220 Swift years ago just so that I could always see my hits (and occasional misses

) when out shooting ground squirrels and prairie dogs. A bit more noise, yes, but the satisfaction of seeing my impacts was well worth it. Had I known how much it would help I would have done it many years sooner.

I like the pws fsc30 which came off a scar 17 or a jp enterprise. I think the pws is about 95 bucks and i found them at rainier arms. You just have to be sure which threads you have.

I like the looks of the CSR Blast Tamer. Only 3 ports, on top. Keeps the muzzle down and doesn't blow dust all over from a bench/prone.

Keep in mind that side-ported brakes need to be timed to the threading on the muzzle.
That usually adds several $$ to the cost of a simple threading job.

Couldn't one use a crush or peel washer? That is, provided they are not looking for a seamless job...

Yes, that would work.
I've never gone that route so I don't know any details.
I've had them timed:

This is something I want to screw on myself. Don't want to wait 2 months for the gunsmith to have time to install it. I understand the side ported models will have to be 'timed' to the 12 oclock position on the barrel threads. I think I can accomplish this with the crush washer. Seemless look not super important at this time. Would I be better off with a different style that doesn't require precise alignment on barrel threads?

Last question: Do I need a 6mm specific brake? Not many of these out there that I can locate. Will a 308 brake be just as effective?

muzzle brakes are cool as long as you're the person behind the trigger.

if you're the unfortunate person next to them on the range line, not so much. its rough with smaller calibers and god forbid its a ultra whiz-bang magnum deluxe, or a short carbine 308 type of rifle. i have a friend with a 16" ar10 thats braked. he still cant figure out why everyone leaves when he brings it out. I keep an extra set of foam ear plugs in my bag for those days so i can double up under my muffs, if moving isnt an option.

just remember to be kind to those around you when you brake your rifles

Thanks for the links Pahntr 760. Thanks to all who provided info!

Fortunately living in such a tiny town I am always alone at the range. Heck there's only one bench. Running people off the range from muzzle blast won't be a problem.
