While it doesn't actually quieten the gun, it does direct a large amount of the muzzle blast forward and away from the shooter and bystanders. It also changes the recoil impulse a bit and stops most all of the muzzle rise.

Did you notice any loss of accuracy when you installed the Levang? Got a brand new one sitting here just have not had a chance to install it yet.
