Muzzle devices

So obviously a suppressor is pretty awesome for those that live in states that allow them. For those not running one, what is your muzzle device of choice and why? Compensators, linear compensators, "flash cans" etc. Flash hiders probably have value at night, but during the day I see no reason to choose one other than A2s come with a lot of pre-assembled uppers. Compensators tame muzzle jump and add noise. Linear comps and "Flash cans" do nothing for muzzle jump but may possibly reduce perceived muzzle blast? So let's here it...

I use the linear compensators when I can because I like to be polite to my hunting partners since we rarely wear hearing protection while predator calling or shooting grey diggers or sage rats from a vehicle. The Levang linear compensators direct the muzzle blast away and forward. An effective muzzle brake is deafening even at the outdoor covered range with hearing protection if you are at the bench in the next lane.

Kaw Valley Precision Linear Comp's make me grin. SilencerCo ASR brakes are handy for me with a couple Omega's. APA Lil B@stard. Area 419 Hellfire. PRI Quiet Control. Hollands Radial port brake.

I don't do flash hiders.

Linear compensators reduce recoil, especially baffled versions. Muzzle jump is predominantly caused by the recoil breaking over top of the shooter's shoulder. Reduce recoil, you'll also reduce muzzle jump.

For hunting rifles, I’m also on the linear compensator bandwagon, and the Kaw Valley is one of my favorites. The AR platform really doesn’t have any recoil to speak of, so a brake is hardly justified. Linear comps just make a rifle so much more pleasant to shoot.

A good pair of MSR or the like ear pro, with the auto cut out is money well spent.

Expensive? No.

Guys can blow that much in the bar in one night. Protecting your hearing is priceless.

Paying big dollars for hearing aids later on is not cheaper either.

I either run a 3 chamber muzzle brake or a Surefire muzzle brake. Makes follow up shots quicker. Not so good for your ears though...
