my 204 bullet drop is very close to my 243...even better

I went to Nikon's Spot-On and compared my two loads, and the 204 is doing a tad better than the 243, unless I'm missing something. The 204 has less drop even out to 700 yds...when they both are sighted in at the same distance.

How can that be...? Surely that is incorrect...?

204 40gr vmax @3900 fps vs 243 58 gr vmax @ 3850

Even the wind drift is better with the 204.

That just makes me want to leave the 243 in the case until I load it with heavier bullets.

All bullets drop at the same rate...(32fps per second)
IE 1g force.by time.
it's the distance it covers and aerodynamics of the projectile the determines drop tables.
I know this is not exact but in general the idea is.

check it, ballistic tables
a .26bc bullet @ 3000fps will drop (33) inches in 500yds in (.532 secs)time
a. 39bc bullet @ 2700fps will drop (34) inches in 400yds in(.538 secs)time

Does not, does not...

They drop at the rate of 32ft per second squared (32 F/S²)

YUP
Grain for grain the 204 is a bit BETTER then even the 22/250.
BUT you can only shoot about 45to50 gr bullets a 22/250 up to about 70 and a 243 like 120....

40grainers have always been enough bullet for coyotes to me. Knock down power has been great... so I guess I'll leave my other rifles in the van unless the wind causes me to have to work up a heavier wind bucking load for my 243.

I have some 70 HP, 87 vmax, and 105 amax for my 243...that I could load up... we'll see what happens.

I don't understand how a 6mm 55gr Nosler Balistic tip can have a better BC then a 22 ca/ 55gr Nosler Balistic tip? Isn't the 22 cal NBT a longer skinnier bullet?

I would like to try those 39 grainers... but I have a lot of 40 grainers already loaded, and need to shoot them first.

After setting up my 204 and 243, I then realized how their drops and BC where so close. I thought that the 58 vmax would do better than the 40's... but was wrong. I see now that the only real advantage with the 243 is with heavier wind bucking bullets. And I know that there is a difference in knock down energy.

Try the 55 Ballistic Tip, it has the same BC as that 40 VMax. Regardless of BC.....if you're actually wanting to shoot a coyote at 700yds - or even way out there - ask yourself which one's gonna hit harder at distance and put something down.

So then why even worry if one's a little flatter at 700yds? And a 40 vs. a 55/58, similar velocity.......there's no comparison at any distance.
