My AR 10 in 22-250- Looking for Cycling Issue Help

I just wanted to say Hi. to everyone. I'm brand new to the forums and dont have a clue what I'm doing hunting predators.

I will also preface this by saying, I passed typing class in High School by faking a broken finger from Football so I got a D, rather than taking the final and failing the class all together. This means I know I suck at it and spelling as well.(Insert Beer smiley faces i have seen, but also dont know how to do)

I just wanted to share what i thought was an interesting build with everyone.

I also have some pics but no Idea how to upload them. If anyone can drop that knowledge on me i would be much appreciated. I am not a photographer so it is not the best anyway, sorry.

For this build I used a DPMS Lr-308 A3 upper and Lower. I used a DPMS BCG. The Gas system is DPMS and is rifle length. The lower and Upper parts kits were also DPMS.

I put a Bill Springfield worked over DPMS trigger in. It is crisp and breaks at 3 lbs. This trigger is rediculous for the price and he was awesome to deal with I highly recomend him.

The pistol grip is a Magpul MIAD Modular grip, because i like the different core insert options.

The stock is a Magpul PRS.

The barrel is a 22" Stainless steel 1:8 RHT twist bull Barrel from Phil Harris at Harris Gunworks. Phil was absolutely fantastic. I say bull barrel because im not sure how else to describe it, it is 1.2" behind the gas block and Heavy. It also has a custom made muzzel break/compensator on it, again made by Phil.

I used a JP Enterprise Modular Handgurd Sysytem for the front end. I put a full length rail on the top and a 4" rail at 9.

The magazine is a 20 rd Magpul PMAG. I got this because its cheaper than a 10rd DPMS mag. I will pick up some smaller mags in the future.

I am using a Harris H series bipod 13"-23".

The scope in the Picture is a Pulsar Digisight N550. Im not sure if it will stay on the rifle as I am considering going 22-250 for a day rifle and 204 for my night hunting setup.

Thats pretty much my build if you have any questions feel free to ask

what gr. pill you shooting? and what kind of accuracy are you getting. I was thinking that a 1:8 for a 22-250 would be a little fast. Dont take this as Im questioning your build just curiuos.

I just the barrel back yesterday and finshed the assembly last night. As of yet have not had it out shooting. I will hopefully get to the range toady or tommorrow.

First, Welcome to the boards, you will find alot of great info and good people here.

Nice build, I like the idea of the faster twist on the
22-250 will let you push some heavier bullets which should be fun.

I have not experienced any problems running light bullets in fast twists, however at 22-250 speeds that may change.

Let us know how it shoots.

Welcome to PM Chris. Sounds like you got a really nice build there. There's a great bunch of guy/girls here so don't hesitate to ask questions.
The best way to learn how to download pictures here is to go to the forum "Photo Gallery". Go down to the third topic posted by 7mmcrittergetter. He has a video that will walk you through it step by step.

Looking forward to seeing your 22-250.

Dave

I have alaways wanted to build a 1-8 twist 22-250 in a AR platform. That is a sweet setup. Looking foward to hearing how it shoots.

If you want to email me your photos, I'll put them up here for ya until you figure it out. Just log in and go to my profile to the email address.

I like your choice for barrel twist. My .22-250 is a 1:12 or 1:14, can't remember off hand. I wish it was a 1:8. I will never shoot anything less than 52gr, but having the ability to shoot the heavy stuff would be great. Especially since it's a bolt and I can load long.

My .223/5.56's are all 1:9, and again, I wish those were 1:8. Shooting the 75gr A-max's would be sweet!

My 1-9 shoots 75 A Max just fine...In my 22-243 bolt gun.

The gun Shot well enough- I had 1.2" 3 shot group, from prone with out a bench rest and a fixed 4X Sight. I was using Factory Hornaday 40 grain Vmax. This is a light bullet for the 1:8 twist and as I start to roll my own i hope to shrink this down. I could see the target but couldnt make out any definition as far as Xring, 10ring, 9ring, etc. It was just one big black circle. So I think once I put my 3-9 Nikon on it it should be better. "Aim small, Miss Small"

The problem I had was that it didnt cycle at all. I believe I may have to Open the gas port a little bit, but any other Ideas you have I would greatly appreciate.

Chris

Yes. The 22-250 takes the same bolt as a 308 and the magazines work as well. I had a custom barrel made in 22-250. Their are several issues, one is number of rounds. I have done some looking into this, and it seems about 7 is the most you can have due to case taper. Some magazines like less.

Also it appears that gas regulation can be an issue. I'm working through that now.

Chris

You might replace the gas rings with a one piece ring. That was my problem with a Dtech 243 wssm on the first shot. The one piece gas ring solved the problem.
