This past weekend my hunting partner and I headed out to unit 23 for our fall turkey hunt. Friday was opening day, after not seeing a thing in the morning my partner and I drove to an open area where we could see for several hundred yards. We saw some turkeys on the move at about 200 yards away. As soon as they crested a small rise we moved in. The turkeys saw us and stayed out of range while in the thick stuff. No shots were taken and we headed back to camp at about 4:30. When we got back to camp we decided that we were tired and weren't heading out again. I was going to get out of my hunting clothes and went to the cab of my truck when I saw some turkeys. My gun was in the cab so out it came, boom, my hunt was over. As my turkey lay dying on the ground another turkey hung around even after the shot. My partner shot and his hunt was over too. I've heard stories of people filling their tags from camp, now I have one of those stories.
