I understand that the x-mark trigger is supposed to be adjustable both above and below the factory setting of 3 or 3 1/2 pounds but I cant get mine to "soften-up". Ive backed the screw way out and in and it seems its be doing nothing. Any suggestions ?

Yep, buy yourself a Timney. Went through the same thing last year with a new SPS, I couldn't get it to vary by 1 lb.

Learn to shoot what ya got?

Rifles shoot small groups without modifying/replacing triggers....done it plenty of times. Never have replaced/modified one yet.

Thanks + 1 on THAT. Buy a Jewell and don't look back. Get the HVBR.Can adjust from 1/2 oz to 3 ibs. You pay for what you get. Timmney and Shilen are good choices also.

I went the Rifle Basix LV-1K route. It has done well for me at $150. I never changed it from the factory setting. It is supposed to come pre-set at 10oz. Mine is in a varminter so the light weight is perfect. If I was doing a walking around deer hunting or predator calling rifle, I'd probably add some stiffness and take it to 1.5-2lbs. I've shot some phenominal groups with a 6lb+ trigger, but why bother when you can do it all the time with a 2lb one?

Rich isn't it?

I didn't have a problem with the regular XMark triggers, but the "pro" one iS different.

FWIW, you could re-sprin it and likely get to 2.5# or so. But I would get an aftermarket or an "old school" rem trigger. They are awesome when properly adjusted.

As far as "learn to shoot what you got" Um, I don't get the principal. A few dollars out of pocket and you WILL IMPROVE what you've got. I don't see the sense in dealing with sub par or even mediocre products. No sense.

So why buy them in the first place? Shouldnt they work as soon as you purchase them? This has always been My grief when buying inferior products.

The same reason I don't settle for the accuracy of off the shelf ammo. Good enough aint good enough.

I agree havent bought ammo in a few years.. cept rimfire.

Well Grant. I for one have had wonderful experiances with all and every Remington product I have ever owned. Everyone of them shoots 1/2 MOA or better. You have admitted that your Remington doesn't shot as well as you like. You also admitted to me that you haven't put too much development into your Remington.

I hate the accu trigger. So if I buy a Savage, I need to replace the trigger. I despose the tikka stock. It doesnt "fit" me or feel right. Again, my opinion.
Does that make them an inferioir product? No! It just isn't what I like. Same with a Remington trigger. My XMarks are great, for me. Breaking at 3 to 3.5 lbs. That is more then satisfactory for me.

So what about a Tikka boot shroud? I have seen plenty of people that crack said shroud on anything heavier then a 243 win. THAT is inferior to me. I know they shoot well. That's for sure. But that is definitely a weak link.

Now, as far as the newer XMark "pro" trigger or the like/dislike there of is only an opinion. I am CERTAIN that plenty of critters fall using this "inferior" product. If ONE does not like an aspect of THEIR equipment, THEY can change it. That's what this is about.

I buy Remington because they have been proven to me. Again, my use, my experiance, my opinion.

Are the people that don't have these high dollar products and modifications wrong? I guess we're just rookies, eh? Sendin' bullets out on a wing and a prayer. How did past generations of hunters ever survive....

I guess I deserved that attack for posting an opinion.
What was I thinking?
I had it coming. How dare I!

I have an sps in .243 w/ the xmark pro in it and I've had no problems. It's set at about 3lbs, zero creep, breaks beautifully! Has made a world of difference for me.

The spring under the allen screw is stuck(compressed). I would remove the allen screw in the trigger and take a paper clip and gently try to free it, it's larger than the screw hole so it won't come out. Remington even states that you can remove the screw if you call them. Or....Take it to a gunsmith as it is a pain to get to unless your good at taking apart triggers. You can get a lighter spring kit for the X-Mark pro. A PM search will find you the link to the kits.

Another option is to have a gunsmith adjust your xmark trigger. It will be cheaper then buying a new trigger. But rather then fool around I ordered a Timney and couldn't be happier.

You can't blame Remington for the xmark adjustments after the hatchet job that was done on them for the old trigger. The problem was many people that shouldn't be adjusting them did and that caused problems.
