My truck gun is almost done

I have been wanting an inexpensive but good rifle for my truck so I traded a pistol for an almost new Stevens mod 200 in 25-06 and I put a older redfield 3x9 on it. Had a friend/gunsmith work the trigger to 3lbs and glass bed the action for me and he also stiffened the stock for me. I just got the call to come pick it up just a minute ago, so now all I have to do is decide if I'm going to paint it or not. I use a doublestar ar 15 in 223 but I wanted something not so expensive to leave in the truck most of the time. Anyone else have a truck rifle?

I don't know, my thought of a "truck gun" is one you expect to be abused by being beaten around. Maybe something like an iron sighted Ruger Mini 14/30 with a synthetic stock.

Yours sounds like a pretty good gun, not one that you would want to take big hits.

Enjoy it. Don

And the good thing about the mini 14 is that if it were to accidentally discharge inside the truck, it has only a 50/50 chance of actually hitting the truck.

It's not like I got much money in it. Trigger and bed job was $65.00 (got a break because he's a friend) Already had the scope and the pistol I traded for it is one I had around for years and not much money in it either. I certainly don't have as much money in it as what a used Mini 14 would cost and besides lol I kinda like to hit what I'm aiming at, so I'm thinking it's just right for life in the truck. Plus, it's a Stevens so it's already butt ugly just like the owner and the old 4x4 it's going to live in so it just don't get much better than that

Started with an M1 carbine, then a Ruger .44 mag carbine, followed by an AK47..SHTF was the name of that game then as opposed to game taking opportunities while city trucking.

Grandma[my wife] uses our truck now for garage sales and the AK rides in my Mustang's trunk..had to put it someplace, LOL.

i always wanted to get 1 of those kel-tec ul-15(noy sure on the mod.#) the one that folds in half and takes ar-15 mags, sure would b a good 1 2 throw behind the seat.

I have the exact gun for my truck gun, I love it, it shoots my reloads in a .679" group at 100 yards. The only recommendation I would give you is to put some good glass on it. I wanted to make sure I had a scope that would hold a zero after being bumped around in the truck. I don't know about Redfield scopes so I cant say if that will work for you or not. I put a nikon buckmasters on mine and it has held zero so far and my truck has been on some nasty roads.

I have a Keltec Sub 2000 that takes the same glock mags as my Carry gun (Glock 19). I have it in a little backpack with some 33rd mags and a couple standard G17 mags.
Inexpensive carbine that wont make me too mad if it gets stolen or beat up.
Been thinking about getting a Mossberg persuader in 12gauge to replace that.

shanedogg mentioned the KelTec - it makes an awesome little truck gun.

I have two SU-16Cs - the one that folds and will shoot from the folded position. What makes it a great car/truck gun is that it will fit (when folded) into a beat up tennis racket bag that no one would give a second look at if it was laying on the floor or back seat of your vehicle.

On top of that it shoots great and costs a little over half of what an AR does.

hahahhaha OMG thats funny right there! rp

Bigswedegml, I pm'ed you about your reloads. The Redfield is an older scope but still very clear and very well made but one of these days I will upgrade. These stevens will shoot won't they. With the action beded and my trigger work it should get under an inch but we will see tommorow. Before the work done to the rifle, I was getting avg. 1 and 1/4 with factory winchester 90 gr. positive expanding points @ 3440 fps. Some were a little larger but I'm pretty sure it was my fighting the trigger pull. It was a hard pull but feels much better now, can't wait to get to the range.
