N133 and 223 ?

In a previous post this was listed as a good powder for the 223 as far as being both accurate and fast. The Nosler book, which I think is very conservative, shows it being fast, but the Speer book doesn't give it that much credit. Can anyone using this powder give me some examples with this powder?

Thanks in advance.

40 gr vmax...max load in my gun (over 25 gr), CCI BR4 primers, Win brass = an honest 3700 fps in my Model 700 with custom Shilen Match 20" barrel. I'd hate to see what it would be in a 26" tube. ;-)

SUPER accurate, fast, and flat shooting. Zeroed at about 250, I can hold on the first mil dot down and head shoot groundhogs at 400. It's a lazer.

I also use N133 with a milder load, not so hot, and Sierra 52 gr Match bullets. It's really accurate with those too.

Been meaning to try 50 gr blitzking, NBT or Vmax's with N133, but I haven't shot that rifle much since getting my 17 Fireball.

Bownut,
I use 52 grain bullets. Can you give me some specs on your load with that? I have found some N133 and might want to try it.

not sure offhand, without referring to my notes, but it's a mid book load, maybe around 24 gr? I wasn't interested in speed, since these are target loads. Start low and work up. I'd recommend starting at 23.0 and working up from there in half grain increments, then find the best load and vary it up/down by 0.2 to see if you can fine tune it. Seat those 52's just into or touching the lands if you can.

Here's data...

i have loaded over 25 gr in my gun with 50 gr vmax
I won't list the load but well over 25..... 25.1 was a good starting load
over 3500 fps in my load....
try 24.7 or so and work up if you can...
super velocity and super accuracy at the same time...

perfect powder for 223 with 40 to 50 gr bullets....

I picked up a couple pounds of it and had been pretty happy with it in my 55gr loads. However, I'm now looking for a replacement as it just isn't as easy to get as others for me. So keep availability in mind.

With 52gr Bergers I am getting 3355 fps with a 22 inch barrel and with 45gr Starke bullets 3652 fps from a 26 inch barrel and these are not Max loads although very close. Very accurate and a clean burning powder as well. The only issue as mentioned above is availability.

N-133 is accurate in my rifles too. However, the store I deal with here quit carrying it.
So, I've been concentrating on TAC for the last month.

In my Rem 700's, N133 with the 50 and N135 with the 55's are really in a class by itself when it comes to speed.

Now I have 26" barrels on my rifles, so I'm getting a little free speed.

I am shooting the 50's at 3600+ with 133, and I am shooting the 55's at 3500 with N135.

You have to use good tough brass(not federal) with a thick cup primer.

The load with the 55g Sierra Lead tip blitz At 3500 fps with 135 is a monster masher load for yotes, it puts a gigantic hole in them...very humain kills.

I don't list my loads because fast twist rifles spike the pressures and my 14" twist loads may not be applicable to a guy that is shooting a rifle with a fast twist.

My advise with you is to start off at 24g with either powder and go up as you find the bullets starting to touch in the groups with your rifle. The load with 135 has the slightest compression with the 55's with the IMI brass that I use.

You will to more than likely mail order the powder, just get 8lbs...you won't regret it...for 40g,50g use 133; for 55g use 135.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info.
I'll save that for when I break out the N-133. I have about a pound left out of a 2 pound container. Don't have any N-135, but I can mail order it.
