NADY means "rip off"

In August, I purchased a NADY 151VR-LT from Beach Audio in California to outfit my Prey Master and make it wireless. A word of caution: This NADY unit is garbage. More importantly, Beach Audio has refused to exchange or refund my money for the unit citing a return policy hidden on their website that they purposefully do not print on their packing slips or receipts. I've never been to their site; I ordered my unit through Amazon.com.)

The sound quality of this unit is horrendous. Scratchy and distorted with a range of less than fifty feet line of sight. The female plug jack on the transmitter is faulty and causes the signal between the Prey Master control unit and the transmitter to fade in and out, as well as out and out cut out while in use.

Beach Audio advertises that they sell only factory new merchandise, but this unit had clearly been mishandled whether in manufacturing or by a previous owner and was sold new even though it was used or factory refurbished. The "level" adjustment screw on the transmitter - presumably used to adjust the transmitter output level - was inserted crooked and cross threaded so that the adjustment was unusable. I have no idea if adjusting the output would resolve my problems with the unit since it was broken when I received it.

Beach Audio, again, has refused to deal with me on this unit. I have sent NADY an e-mail to see if they will make good on an otherwise bad deal but I suspect the best they will do is offer repairs at my expense. I don't see the sense of throwing good money behind bad for a unit that has seen less than three minutes total field use time.

My advice to you, based upon my mistake, is if you work hard for your money, look at someone besides Beach Audio as a parts supplier, and consider something besides a NADY.

I totally disagree with you Cdog. I've used a bunch of the 151 sets and have had excellent experiances with all of them. With Preymasters, with mp-3 players, with walkman type cassette players, they all worked great.
You may have all the right reasons to bad mouth Beach Audio, but to bad mouth the 151's because YOU had problems just ain't right. Even Foxpro lets a lemon slip out every now and then.

Cdog911,

Sorry to hear you're having these problems. Doggin Coyotes and I have both had excellent results with ours, and have walked any number of others through technical glitches 'til they were happy with their wireless setups using Nadys. It does seem from your description, however, that you've gotten hold of a defective unit.

Now, I'm certainly not going to apologize for companies that I have zero affiliation with, but it sound like your beef is with Beach Audio as much or more than Nady itself.

A couple of these outfits that have advertised rock-bottom internet pricing --and not only Beach Audio, by the way-- have turned out to have really attrocious return policies. Which can never be a good thing when buying a radio set using shared frequencies that might well need to be exchanged for another set on another frequency, even short of the aggravation of receiving defective merchandise.

Just a thought, have you attempted to get a refund through either Amazon or your credit card co?

If you're stuck with it (and I really hope it turns out you're not), there may be a couple of things you could yet try in an attempt to get it working better, if you're interested. Best of luck and let us know how it all turns out.

you sould at least give nady a shot at fixing your problem before you title them as a rip off. They may or may not fix it but at least you stil have a shot at it.
good luck with it . /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree that my beef is with Beach Audio. I'm still waiting for NADY to step up and make on offer to make things right. As far as you guys having nothing but good luck with them, I'm glad for that and that is to their credit. But, from where I stand, you only get one chance to make a first impression and I'm not at all impressed.

Personally Id get in touch with whichever credit card company you used. Tell them the unit is defective and the seller-Both Amazon & Beach dont want to remedy it, and they should resolve this issue for you.

As far as the nady's being junk- they arent. There are alot nicer units out there for three times the money. But the nady serves a purpose. Its cheap, and it works.

After the card company reimburses you, Id recomend ordering thru an actual store front. I dont buy stuff on the net for the very same reason your having problems right now.

Best of luck on this one-Mike.

I'll also throw in to say that there's yet another factor why I favored a cheap Nady VHF versus a more expensive and perhaps more rugged VHF wireless mic when I bought my 151VR-LT, now nearly four years ago. It's that the VHF radio frequencies these VHF wireless mics have traditionally used have been an under-utilized portion of the analog broadcast television spectrum, with the only interference coming from other wireless mic (and some hospital telemetry) users. Analog TV did not use all their allotted spectrum, and these VHF wireless mics co-existed without interference, sometimes right in and among these same channels.

But soon every television station in the USA is going to go digital, by the end of 2008. Digital TV uses ALL of the bandwidth within a particular channel, bumping off the part of the spectrum these wireless mics have pretty much had to themselves, previously. So the window of using these VHF wireless microphones for our ecallers needs to be seen as a rather limited-time opportunity, depending on your TV broadcasting area/market. (Good news at least for some predator callers way out in the boondocks, is that this also means there are a ton of these Nadys and other VHF mics being dumped on eBay by videographers in metropolitan areas, where they no longer work due to RFI).

This radio frequency interference issue is the reason why I'm always harping about first scanning the various frequencies in your most called areas, or at least buying from someone with a generous exchange policy.

dont know much about NADY but mabe it was that particular unit that was damaged I would give it another shot. If it still doesnt work then I would argue to get a refound. Thats just my opinion.

Just a quick update on the NADY saga...

I filed a claim with amazon.com who launched an investigation. The Customer Service Supervisor at Beach Audio e-mailed me yesterday and offered a full refund. Today, I rec'd the RMA and an apology for the e-mail I received last week. As far as the people at NADY, I have yet to receive any response at all from them. Not much for standing behind their product, I guess.

Respectfully,

Where is this nady's problem? You bought a unit which according to you was used, but sold to you as new. The people that sold it to you wish to make it right by refunding your money, and they even thru in a token apology.

Your beef is with Beach. they tried to get over on you. you caled them out, they gave in. You won.

yotenaylor,

Read the time stamps. The initial "pack sand in your [beeep]" response came from Beach. My first issue was with them. I have since stated that they stepped up and offered a refund and an apology. That is to their credit.

My second issue was that the unit was poorly built and sold to me with at least two damaged parts, indicative of prior use/ ,misuse. I made several attempts to contact NADY and let them offer an explanation. They did not respond. Take that for what you will. As far as for me, I take that as a company that would rather hide then step up and defend their product. Or, better yet, let a distributor take it in the shorts on their behalf. I value the money I earn, and spend, and offer these comments to anyone else who might be contemplating purchasing a NADY. In my case, they opted to NOT stand behind their product and if you buy a bad one, too, you're SOL as far as NADY is concerned. Thus, buyer beware. It's out there. Take it for what it's worth. If you think it's bad advice, your loss. As stated before, you only get one chance to make a first impression and with me, NADY had a very poor showing.

Cdog- I am completely happy that your getting refunded, and Iam sorry that you had such a run around.

Again, unless you have stuff that you know is new from the factory, it doesnt make sense to gripe about NADY. Its like buying a used car and blaming chevrolet for the previous owners misuse/care for the vehicle.

Sincerely-best of luck with this and I hope you can find something that works for you-Mike
