Natchez shipping, what do think?

I just added 5x 100rd bags of Winchester .224 55grn FMJ from each Midway and Natchez. Both had them in stock.

Midway = $51.99
Round up = $0.66
Shipping = $10.35
Total = $63.00

NSS = $48.00
Shipping = $16.45
Total = $64.45

Shipping weight is about 5lbs. $12 shipping for a no go gauge is absurd. $16 for 5lbs is somewhat high in my opinion.

Midway may have been listening to folks at the ISE this year. I heard a bunch of them complaining about shipping costs.

I just got back from the post office. I shipped my savage 22-250 in the mail. Insured for 400 and priority mail...... $16.80.

I ordered a Leupold scope from Natchez last Saturday and got it tonight. Came with free Alumina lens covers and the Leupold scope mounting tool. Free shipping and no handling. I've ordered two or three scopes and some binoculars from them, never had a problem.

I recently ordered 3 small parts from Midway, shipping was $4 and change, I thought that was fair. I agree about Natchez, they lost me too. Today I ordered 3250 rounds of 22lr for my upcoming sage rat hunt from Midsouth, shipping was around $20, which I thought was probably right on target for that much weight.

Many, Many companies are making a huge profit from their "shipping and handling" charges. Why don't they subtract the cost of a storefront and other costs of doing a legitimate business? Why charge me "handling charges", won't the item be handled in legitimate business transactions or do the items just come off the shelf and show themselves to the customer? I just returned a $3.00 part that I was charged $6.00 to have it shipped. It cost me $0.47 to ship it back. When they refused to refund my money for the shipping I went to my card company and complained and got my money back. As long as you support these theives they will continue to steal from you. FRJ

One other thing. I think there is a tax dodge in that there is tax on profit from selling an item there is no tax on charging to ship it. Mid South is my go to store. I just bought a gun barrel from them $210.00 $6.60 shipping. Retail on the barrel was over $360.00!!!! Always compair and do without if necessary!!! FRJ

The free shipping is a Leupold promotion, not Natchez.
Leupolds costing 300+ ship free from any vendor unless they're pocketing the shipping, which I doubt that Luppy would put up with.

I very seldom use an internet company to buy supplies because I can usually find what I want very close to where I live.
For you guys who buy off the net, prices are generally lower for an item than you pay in a local shop, and you end up most of the time paying no sales tax. For me the shipping replaces the sales tax to some extent.

If you kick the dog that herds your goats long enough he might eventually bite back in a sense. For those of you who want some businesses to fold because they "charge too much for postage and handlng", what will you do for supplies when they no longer exist? Just wondering, or maybe wandering for some of you.

I have found that unless I have a lot of stuff to buy or the deal (usually optics) is fantastic, the Natchezz cheaper price dies at the shipping table.
Natchezz in my opinion also has one of the worst sites to navigate.
Midway can be useful for me, but it seems the last year or two their prices have gotten much higher. I don't think I would ever buy an optic from midway.
I like midsouth, but they have limited inventory in my experience but seem to be doing better.

Years ago having to guesstimate on shipping would have been a valid excuse. Today on an internet order there is no excuse for estimated shipping charges. All the information necessary can be input at time of item entry (dimensions, weight). That is why some companies list "this item qualifies for a small item shipping discount" The fee and minimum order are to cover the majority of cc cost. Many people do not know that a company gets charged every time someone purchases with plastic. The rates are usually based on how much info the seller collects from the buyer (different rates for signature, entering address, entering just zip code, giving security code on back of card, etc.).
Also, the reason many prices have went up locally is that the company is having to cover plastic cost. The simple answer would be to charge more for using plastic, but that is illegal. It is legal however to give a "discount" for cash. Most companies don't and just figure it as a little extra profit.
Shipping charges have been a game for a long time.

I didn't really read it as anyone wanting a "buisness to close".
More like simple price comparisons, but thanks for doing the "wondering" for those of us who aren't bright enough to do our own.

FWIW,,,, some dogs need to be culled.

Glad to help out. Try to smile once in awhile. Life has a good side too. Is every day a gloomy day in Idaho?

And when "some dogs need to be culled" happens, watch what happens to the prices that the other dogs charge. That was all I was saying, and I bet you knew that before pouncing on your keyboard.

In some ways the internet and these type of posts remind me of a garden club meeting of old ladies. But that is just me and my wandering or wondering, or whatever. Please feel free to call it for me, OK.

Fire away troops if it makes your day better. It's all OK by me either way. The rest of my day will be what it is, and I'm betting it will be good in spite of maybe a few sharp jabs from some internet keyboard spears that really don't matter one hoot to me.

Common Winny.
You gotta admitt, that "wondering for you" comment was pretty condecending.

Also, keep in mind that culling generally improves a breed.

OK. Some additional explanation about what I was saying. "wondering for you" is not what I said. That is your interpretation.

I said I (me) was wondering (for myself), but I figured some of you (yous guys - ya'll) would consider that my mind was wandering by wondering. Capiche?

LOL,,,, Got it, err Capiche.

Still don't like it when vendors "wonder" if we're smart enough to figure out that low prices + high shipping costs aren't the value they want us to believe they are though.

There is nothing more that I would love to do but buy things locally from a Mom & Pop kinda shop, but it doesent happen here. Example. I purchased 1 lb of Unique at the local shop. $ 28.99. I then found it at powder valley for $14.99. Math isn't hard when the dollars are coming from My own wallet. Primers are also $10.00 more per thousand. So If I am going to buy online anyway, Im going to go with the best shipping prices. Midway, and Natchez have alway been higher in the shipping dept, so I buy where I can get the best overall deal. Midsouth, Graff & Son and powder valley is where I usually shop. Plus if you have a few friends needing a few items the Hazmat and shipping is split up. Yes it would be nice having a shop like Winny Fan apparently does that sells at prices that compare with the Internet prices and only the tax is the difference.

Here in my area, we have a local gun shop that is run by a good friend who is more than fair on shipping charges. He will let you see his cost on the invoice, along with shipping charges.

When he can, he gets an order together that will ship free because of volume, cost of order, etc. If it doesn't ship free, he splits the cost among the different items on the order so that each buyer is paying a fair portion of s/h charges. Often, his in-stock powder, primers, bullets, rings, etc. will vary a few cents on each package because of the difference in shipping costs on each order.

I don't mind waiting a day or two extra in order to keep the cost down. Plus, I like the fact that I'm helping him stay in business, instead of supporting a multi-million-dollar giant store. He has a lot of stock that is available on a daily basis, so I can wait for a special item.

I've looked at items on the 'Net, and when everything is taken into account (cost, shipping/handling, insurance, etc.), even when I have to pay sales tax, a lot of times, he has a better price or so close that it doesn't matter.

Anyhow, just my two cents worth.
