Need a pellet gun for my son,

I bought my eight-year-old son a Daisy 880 to save the rabbits from multiple shots from his Red Ryder. However, the 880 has failed after only 5 outings. VERY disappointed. My brother and I used a (better made) 880 for years of good service. Anyway, I would like something well made that will last him a long time without breaking the bank. Should I look at a spring piston like Gamo? What are some good options?

We have a Gamo and Crossman that both shoot well. Had the Crossman out today and I bet that thing weighs 9 or 10 pounds. It's heavier than any gun I own. No mechanical issues with either gun and they both work the same.

Ruger Airhawk is what I have. 1200fps with the copper pellets. Otherwise it's at 1000fps. Break barrel and pretty accurate.

The break action pellet guns are pretty tough to break open. It might be kind of tough for an 8 year old to work. That said I have a gamo hunter that is a pretty good gun. Don't leave them cocked when not shooting them. The nitro piston rifles can be left cocked longer I think.

I would recommend looking at getting a Sheridan pump in 20 cal. This was the first good air rifle me and my brother got when we were kids and are still one of my favorites. They are accurate, reliable and can kill a rabbit no problem.

I got my first pelletgun when i was 7 a German Diana Mod. 25 , and i must agree that break actions are a bit tough in the beginning. But the rifle is still with me (hanging on the wall behind me right now) 29 years later it still fires but it barely punch through a cola can at ten yards these days but it´s still mechanically in function

it must been fired well over 50 000 times throughout the years in the woods and in my parents backyard

http://www.dlairgun.com/Air-Rifles/Diana/ the 240 in this link is probably the same rifle as the Mod. 25 was back in the 80´s, i´ve shot the 240 at my job once and it has a good punch at only 495 fps.

+1 for the Sheridan I had one when I was a kid it took many vermin plus rabbits, tree rats and blackbirds I don't know if the new ones are as good or not but you can still find the older ones for a decent price.
I also have a older Gamo CFX .17 cal it also has taken a pile of vermin, I like the fixed barrel guns better but thats just me

+1 for the Sheridan. I've got a .22 cal I've had for years. There's no telling how many pellets have gone through that thing as I was a kid. No mechanical issues.

I have a .20 cal sheridan thats 30yrs old its been rebuilt once. Fired tons of pellets over the years. I killed a groundhog with a lungshot at 45yds, it went 5'. Outstanding accuracy.
