Need a sling for my AR

I tried doing a search but turned up a whole lot of nada. I've been looking for a sling for my AR but the only ones that I've found are the "tactical" type slings. I want just a regular old "hunting" style sling. Any suggestions/pics?

Don't sell tactical slings short. I know it can be a difficult step to take. First black rifle and then decking it out like you're some kind of mercenary and all. But chances are you'll like the different carry options that come with a tactical sling.

There are some videos and pictures on this site that will give you an idea of what is available. I've seen others go through the same process only to eventually convert to a tactical sling.

My AR only has the loop in the A2 butt-stock and a swivel stud on the free float tube. I am use to the regular style slings and don't really see a need for a tactical sling.

timb,
I have a butler creek sling on my .30-06 and like it but it's not the best. It bounces (stretches) too much.

Look at the KNS-5, I had a buddy make me one. Then use whatever you want. KNS-5 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif I use a padded super sling since my gun weighs 14.5 lbs. It is leather and thick and comfortable for the longer walks.

Cort,
Maybe I am misunderstanding the problem but you can attach a regular sling just fine to it you just won't have a swivel stud on the but stock. The sliding clasp on the sling can be attached right to it. Seems to simple to be what you are asking.

But I bought my sling at the Al's it is just a regular one. Here are some pics of my setup.

I keep messing around with slings on the ARs. I've got a GRSC Snap Sling that is good for all kinds of whacked out carry positions if you need your hands free for doing other stuff... sling linky

Right now I have the Butler Creek Neoprene sling that Timb mentioned above on my calling gun. And I have it on "upside down"...for barrel down carry...

For an shorty AR carbine, I'd look into the various single point slings available...

The thing I don't like about a regular rifle sling on an AR is that the pistol grip, magazine and/or magazine well like to dig into your body and roll the rifle over flat. I went with a side-mounted sling and adjusted it for barrel-down carry with the butt at my sternum. When I push the rifle out and get a cheek weld, the sling is adjusted to come tight. Double-duty and very quick with the EOTech or scope. I'm using the Blue-Force Vickers sling with a KNS swivel that replaces the front take-down pin, and the left side sling point on the ACE skeleton stock. I'm sticking with that, it's working extremely well. Pushing forward on the hand grip until you have tension on the sling really gives great muzzle control. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Hey Evil, what about that KNS swivel/pin, does your upper/lower fit feel looser now that you have that pin?
I got that pin so I could do exactly what you describe, but when I put the KNS pin in it felt like there was more play between the upper/lower. Does this affect accuracy?
I guess it's because it is threaded and doesn't use the normal spring-detent setup.

Also with the Vickers sling, you can carry it barrel down like a 3 pt sling?

No, I'd say it's the same. Movement between the upper and lower won't affect the accuracy.

I carry cross-body with the barrel down towards the outside of my left knee, it will carry like that hands-off no problem. The only concern is jamming the barrel into something solid and butt-stroking yourself in the neck or face. I'm going to try and avoid that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You might what to check out:

then try a Quake Claw sling.

The claw slings are the best IMHO............. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
