Hey Guys,

First everyone here makes exceptional calls.

I have some whitetail deer antlers laying around and would like to make a cottontail call and a lip squeaker amplifier. I have an antler call made by another fellow on another board I no longer visit. It looks to me to just be a bored out antler to a specific size (inner diameter) with some sort of metal reed (possibly aluminum). Where can I get this reed and how do I make an lip squeak amplifier. Is it just a funnel shaped antler bored out. Please keep in mind I'm only lookng to make a handful for my own use and make one for my father as a gift as well. I have way to use basic tools and equipment.

I'm not looking to be a cheapo just appreciate what I do for myself. Thanks ahead of time for any and all help.

I used to have a primos mouse squeeze(cant find it now though) and I took it outside at night and attached about 4 different funnels to it. I was amazing to hear the differance as the sound would bounce back from the houses 50 yards away. I setteld on about a 2.5" diam plastic funnel, it worked very well and seemed to amplify the sound by about double. I have heard a few using transmission funnels for howlers, I will have to try on a squeaker for laughs.

There are plenty of resources for the metal reed you are referring to. It's called a JC Products reed. It is the mainstay for enclosed reed calls.

As far as the lipsqeak maginifier, you got the basic idea. It's a magnifying funnel. Now, the exact diameters of the exhaust and entry is something you'll have to play around with. It took me a few months to settle on the right combination.

My biggest advice: Watch when working with antler. Drill bits grab and something is going to twist. Either the drill bit will twist off, the antler will shatter, or your wrist will twist. Be careful.

Have fun....Tony
