I am needing help with putting together a battery pack for a light that I have just purchased.

It is a hand held light that would normally plug into a cig. lighter in a car. What I want to do it take off the plug and hard wire some gator clips or something like it to the end of the wires.

Where can I get a small 12 volt battery? something I can clip onto my belt or something similar. The light is a cyclops 3.5 million cp light with red cover lens.

Is there anything else I need for this setup? I have never made one of these before so feel free to comment.

butchtango,
I just got done bulding my own light too.
I used a cigarette lighter type too.
What I did was cut the cord near the light and install a Pulse Width Modulator....AKA dimmer switch.
From the other side of the switch it runs to the cigarette plug. I purchased an ATV battery, a 12Ah I believe. I will put the battery in a small soft side insulated lunch box and mount the female part of the lighter plug to the top of the lunch box. This way I can unplug the spotlight, sling the battery over my shoulder, pick up the tripod and walk. When I get to the next spot, just plug in the socket and you're ready to go.

a small jumpstarter for cars already has the lighter plug in them...just gotta make a sling for them...and remember to buy a small one...

Here is what I found that works well. Get a 12v deer feeder battery the ones that are about 2in wide by 6in long and 3 in deep. Go to wal mart and get what I call a fanny pack that the battery fits in and not any bigger. then cut the end off the spotlight and replace it withe the red crimp on terminal wire connectors that slip over the flat post on the battery. I tried the alligator clips first and when they moved around in the field sparks flew and thats not good. I can either wear the pack around my waist or just put the belt over my shoulder and walk into a field. 12$ for the battery, 5$ for the fanny pack, and I found a small spotlight in the automotive section at wal mart for 12$ and made a nice little light rig. Now to get more run time for those long calling nights I bought rechargeable batteries and a charger for my truck for about 20$ that way I can charge a battery while out making a stand so I will have fresh light at each stand.

Order a Night Light 12 volt battery pack (the old style) then cut the plug off the spotlight cord put the cord through the switch cover then connect to terminals put the top on and go the battery is rechargable plus when you turn the switch on the battery you won't take a chance of the switch on the spotlight getting hit and it burn a hole in the truck seat (happend to me coon hunting) they also make a battery that only has a rocker on/off switch instead of brightness control. this setup will be a little more expensive than the previous suggestions but it will probably outlast the spotlight you hook to it many times. go to Huntsmart.com for the materials. feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the materials or assembly.

I use 110 plugs , wire a male to one side and a female to the other . Then you can plug and unplug as you wish easily and at a very minimal cost.
