Need help with Ruger M77

Does anyone here know how to remove the front sight from an older Ruger M77(1980ish)? I figured out how to get the top of the site off by pushing down the detent and sliding it forward. But there is still this monsterously huge front site base sticking up at the end of the barrel. I removed a set scew from inside that and it would appear as though that is all the screws. However if that thing does in fact come off I have no idea how. It doesent turn or lift or slide. Is it actually part of the barrel? That is what I'm beginning to think. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif I got this gun from my dad and I don't know how he could shoot it because when you look through the scope you can see the front sight blocking your view. Any Ideas?

Does the front sight have a dovetailed bead sight. If so, drive it out and you will see a screw in the dovetail. remove that and the sight base should come off.

Yes I removed the bead site and the screw. I thought that it would come off too but it doesn't. Huntsmann may be right, when you look into the holes (there are two of them, one for the screw you mentioned and one for the detent for the bead site) you can see a tarnished silver color inside. So now what? Can you melt the silver with a torch without wrecking the barrell and slide it off? I think silver melts at a low temp like regular solder.

You will notice that little top part with the white bead. That is the part that I have removed. Once that was taken off it revealed an Allen screw that I then removed from inside the post. Thanks for your help.
