Need Input...Burris XTR 2, Veracity or ???

I know questions like this get asked from time to time, but I looked through the forums and I'm only finding threads 3 years old or longer. With the way models change and, sometimes different lots of the same scope, figured I would ask to see if I'm on the right track.

I've got a Bergara Ridge in 300WM (with brake) that is easily shooting MOA and is getting better every range and cleaning trip...currently just over 1/2 MOA. I've got a Nikon Monarch 4-16x44 on it, but near the top end of the power my eye really doesn't like it. I've also got a new hunting spot and we can shoot deer and hogs to just over 600 yards in a bean field. With the way the gun shoots I'd like to start shooting it at longer ranges and only want to replace the optic once ("pay once...cry once"). My budget is about $700. I am not in a time crunch to get this done and am willing to wait for a used deal to come along for the right optic. I saw in the 2019 Burris catalog the XTR 3 listed so maybe a XTR 2 on sale later this year?? I currently have a Veracity 3-15x50 on a 243 and really enjoy it so was thinking another Veracity in 5-25 or XTR 2 in 5-25 to extend the range.

Requirements...Adjustable turrets (like the lower style adjustable since will be used for hunting and target), good tracking, FFP, enough power/usability to reach 1000+ yards, zero stop, and 30 mm main tube or larger. I've ruled out Zeiss, Athlon and Bushnell, Vortex (eye doesn't like the Viper series on high power) and Leupold (have a couple but price point for what I'm searching is above budget).

Am I missing something or would the Veracity or XTR 2 be right for what I'm doing? Thanks for the input!

If you want to shoot a 1000 plus yards between them two scopes I would go for the xtrii. I have hunted with open turrets with out issues. I always remember to check but never had issues with them moving. If you can wait it might be worth to save and get a nightforce or even the leupold mark5 which has kicking turrets.

I have both an xtr II 5-25 on a 7mm and a Bushnell XRS 4.5-30 on a savage chassis gun in 6.5cm. Both are rather large but I like them both.
I wouldn't count out the higher end Bushnells.

You can find some descent deals on used optics over on sniper's hide.

JPT...The target/tactical turrets is what I'm referring to. Some models have very high target turrets and I am looking for adjustable turrets that aren't as high. Similar to what the Leupold VX5 has. Just wondering how the XTR 2 turrets compare. If I went the Veracity route I would get the low turrets and order the replacement knobs from Burris.

I see. I've seen plaenty of XTR2's at PRS matches. They have a very good reputation of being robust, well built, w/ consistent tracking. The knobs are not overly tall for a precision scope. You can usually find used 4-20s or 5-25s on the internet for the $700 to $750 price range. They would be a fine choice imo for your 300wm.

That said, i think you are really limiting you choices by excluding Athlon, Bushnell, most Leupolds, and Vortex from your search. For under $700 budget, those are actually the companies that will offer your requested features.

Have a look at the scopes in the link from Midwayusa:

I’d go Burris xtr ii. I just put a veracity on my 300 win mag and it’s awesome but the XTR ii gives way more adjustments. Leupold would be out do to the lousy turrets, the ones we used on our DMRs were mushy and not that consistent. If you spend a couple grand you get better. Vortex is now and forever will be seen as a waste of money to me. Paying the shipping every time to send in my binos or broken scopes I could’ve bought a better one. Sightron and leupold have never made me pay shipping either, both sent me shipping labels. My newest Nikon isn’t bad for the money actually.

Brand new XTR ii’s are around 700-800 on optics planet right now.

Thanks for the help everyone! I think I've decided on the XTR 2...unless a screaming deal comes along on something. With SHOT show coming will definitely be keeping my eyes open for a deal as some will be making room for the latest and greatest.

This close to shot show I'd wait until after if you can and check out the XTR III. I have an XTR II and while it tracks perfectly and have a good reticle the glass quality leaves a little to be desired. It's not horrible but the new XTR III is said to have better glass and be a little lighter in weight. But I'd guess there's about to be a bunch of good deals on used XTR II's so there's that.
