I was looking at the same scope and then decided to go with a Weaver Tactical Grand Slam 3.5-10 mil/mil scope. It's more compact and light weight than the buckmasater. Also this scope you can spot your miss with the mil dot and then adjust the scope to correct the error.
I have that exact optic on my 17 Fireball XP-100 for prairie dogs and switch to a 4-12x Burris Mini for coyotes as i agree that 6-18x is way more than u need.
I have that exact model on my 26" .223 and I use it for calling all the time. Great scope for $300, performs well out to 500 yards with repeatable clicks. I hunt with it quite a bit at night! At night on 6x it's brighter than a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 on 6x by quite a bit, and clearer during the day too.
Works fine in daylight too, just keep it cranked down to 6x unless you need more power. I hunt mostly open farm land and semi-open rolling hills with it. 6x is a little too much for heavy brush but I still do it.
This is my do-all rifle for varmints and predators. For strictly a calling rifle I'd get a Sightron SII 3-9x40 w/holdover recticle.
