Gents, I am making a trip from CA back to MO next month with the wife for a vacation/hunting trip and want to take the dogs with us on the trip. I went to the pet store and crates are around $100 each and I figured I could build something to house them both for less money. Can anyone give me some pointers and or pics on how to build one to set inside the bed of my truck that will hold 2 70lb dogs confortably and safely?

Thanks!

I gotta tell ya, after field trialing labradors and hunting withg all kinds of hounds for more years than I care to admit, I would suggest you bite the bullet and buy the crates. They can be taken down for storage, hosed out at the car wash when a dog gets sick and pukes or worse, while on the road. They last for years, and can be taken inside a motel/house when the weather goes sideways on you.

By the time you price plywood/ hardware etc. ,even without the time involved, you will be very close to the cost of crates. And have something that is tough to clean, even with marine enamel on it, holds dog odors, and is heavy. For what it's worth.

I agree with mr Redfrog, but u may want to check your local classifieds, or yard sales, even ask around and see if someone has one thats collecting dust and willing to part with.
I have a dozen or so that were given to me or bought real cheap cause people use em a few times and dont need em anymore. Good luck.
