Need to pick a muzzle device for a .300 win mag...

I'm not a recoil sissy by any means. But I would like to lessen the thump of my .300WM for easier and quicker "back on target" times. Aside from a suppressor (a big no-no here in Mn) my next choice is the Badger FTE. It looks great!! And from what I hear, is VERY effective.

Before I send my rifle off, are there any other muzzle brakes I should consider? Nothing funky lookin'... Simple and effective is what I'm after.

You can take a hearing test, fire one shot with a muzzle break without using ear protection, weight two months, take another test, and they can measure your permanent hearing loss. You won't notice it, but it is accumulative. Do it a few times, and you will. Something to think about. A magnum handgun will do the same thing.

I've got an FTE brake on my .300 WM. I installed it when I started shooting 208 grain A-Maxes. It reduced recoil to the point that my wife and daughter regularly shoot the thing with no discomfort. It feels like shooting a .243. This year I watched the bullet impact on a whitetail at 250 yards. Very effective brake.

The noise issue is something I really don't notice since I wear quality noise-canceling hearing protection. But others tell me it sounds like the crack of doom...

vias brakes work well on my 300 win mag, makes it kick like a 25/06.

You do need to wear ear protection when ever firing a gun, muzzle break or not, so don't fool yourself in thinking that you are not harming your ears if you are not using a muzzle break.

They ought to pack ear plugs with every break they sell.

A must to use even while hunting. I put a Break on my 300 win Mag. and always use plugs and muffs on the range. I never gave it any thought about touching off a round out in the field hunting till I did that once. The rifle is now a safe queen..

If I was going to put a break on another rifle I would Have Hollands in Powers Oregon put one of theirs on. They installed the one I have and their work is nothing less than perfection.

My hunting partner was in love with his 30-378 weaterby eith a break. Then he shot a deer when he didn't have time to put on his ear protection. His first thought was "If I missed I won't shoot again. When he got home he sold the gun. He did take the heart out oF the deer.
