I use a regular needle, with heavy duty cotton thread. First put fur skin side out on the edge of a stretcher in a vise. The hole should be put on top of board, pin each end to board, then trim ragged edges, and any pink membrane on hole edge. Start sewing on one end, stitches less than 1/4" apart, hitch every stitch or the sewn edge will roll and be very easy to spot. Try to use the last 1/16th" of the skin edge to sew, dont go deep into the skin.
